  2. My guess is that the blocking and potential warming of the stratosphere is linked to this extreme warmth and lack of sea ice in the Kara and Barents areas. A recent study showed this potential sea ice to stratosphere link. So it’s looking like this will follow the Siberian type of stratosphere event as outlined by Mike Ventrice. The million dollar question is if this event will have the potential to in some way disrupt the Pacific Jet and lead to more of a benchmark type storm track into early December? https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2023GL107221 Key Points Barents-Kara Seas (BKS) sea ice loss modulates the impacts of autumn SPV stretching events on subsequent Siberian cooling Reduced BKS sea ice enhances the upward propagation of waves into the stratosphere over the Euro-Siberian sector Descent of the anomalous stratospheric wave-2 ridge bridges the SPV stretching events and Siberian cooling under low sea ice conditions
  3. Coldest of the season! 26.4 degrees for the low in Purcellville
  4. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HDmZR82yz/ Another very interesting read for this upcoming winter for the Northeast.
  5. bottomed out at 25 even, poor chickens, forgot to plug in the water heater, so they were pecking at ice..
  6. Home is at 41 on the water. Drive 5 minutes inland and it's 22.
  7. It's 25/24, up from 24/22 an hour ago. That's KEEN. T minus 23 days until I mount my very own outdoor thermometer at my new apartment, just like the good ol' days. I will no longer be a poor excuse for a weather nerd!!!
  8. Per the mesonet, only the immediate areas along the Bay avoided a freeze this morning.
  9. This is what I’m talking about when I say I don’t want our best pattern in early December though. Yeah, 4” in the first 3 weeks of December is above climo, but it still isn’t that much!
  10. It's true. I have not seen a water spout with my own eyes either. Someone had posted the photo from Narragansett Bay on my local surfing forum. It is a cool image. I also have not seen with my own eyes a funnel cloud over land.
  11. 24° here. Coldest of the season so far.
  12. Counts as your first freeze technically. But yeah I know what you mean.
