What does water do when it cools?

It's so weird how strong this noreaster is for September. It's so windy out it feels like it's another month and not September. I was also reading that the record breaking super el nino is slightly related to why we got a noreaster this strong this early in the season which is interesting but not surprising.

I am fracking jealous of all that fresh life giving rain and strong chilly NE winds right off the Atlantic! Meanwhile I am fading fast from no rain and wall to wall sunshine and highs around 99 every day.

Due to WEATHER / WIND, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 2 hours and 42 minutes.

Wxmeddler - Appreciate your insight/suggestions and the comments from the other posters too. I'm more of an enthusiast by curse having started college in Ohio in the 80's with the goal of going to Case Western for a meteorology degree. For a variety of reasons I shifted tracks and opted to become an engineer. Built my first weather station at 11 - a Heath-kit, which I had for years and measured 72mph during the Blizzard of 78. As for the location - have a pole mounted in clear space in the yard well above and away from obstacles. It's not perfect for wind, but unobstructed for rain catchment and temps. Didn't want to mount something on chimney that would A.) serve as a lightening rod or B.) need a ladder for servicing (although I have a 32+ foot ladder - just don't want to go up that high to service it. ) Looked at the Vantage Pro 2. The tech specs for the Pro 2 are impressive. Not sure I want to go with Davis again tbh. The solar array they use tends to craze after a couple of years. (At least the one on the Vue does - I've replaced it 3 times so far). Not sure the price and features of the Pro 2 are worth 2X or 3X the cost of a WS-5000 or even more compared to the price of a 2000. Again, thanks for the input from everyone. Appreciate it. R

Wow guys a nor'easter along with 35 mph gusts, highs ONLY in the 60s and bands of life-giving rain! I'd be out on a jebwalk with shorts and a t-shirt, might even douse myself with ice water too! I'm tired of being hot as hell and I want tons of torrential rain and catastrophic floods driven by 65 mph winds.

Wind definitely ramping up. Getting some whistling here and there, and the occasional house shudder.

It gets even more interesting tomorrow is the Harvest Moon the best Full Moon of the entire year and one which often shows a rainbow halo and has the largest tides of the entire year. Tomorrow is also the date when the sunrise and sunset times are exactly 12 hours apart . Aside from the monk parakeets these skies and rainbows are what I miss most about Long Island . Yes if you like rainy noreasters . This would be rain even in the middle of winter aside from elevated areas. Like December 1994? Do you remember the noreaster with a hurricane like eye that backed into JFK airport with storm force winds in December 1994? We had mixed precipitation here in the Poconos with that. If it got to 10 feet that would be near historic. Aside from 1993-94 and 1995-96 the 90s were full of rainy noreasters just like this one. Yep lots of rain. Very difficult to get snow with this kind of track even in the middle of winter. December 1994? Expecting 40 plus mph winds up here. How can we rank these? I know it won't get to December 1992 levels that was a once in a lifetime noreaster. Is there a way to do a combination ranking both including and listing duration, rainfall totals, highest wind speeds, lowest pressure and surge? Yes I wasnt around for Donna but December 1992 was the worst I've ever seen here. It's not because it's a hybrid system it all has to do with the blocking high to the north. Like with all other kinds of storms it's always the High that determines the path a storm takes.
