I think more meaningful rainfall will have to wait until the wedge breaks down Tommorow morning. At least that's what the short range models are showing and I think the wedge is what killed the rain around here

My rain bucket only has a quarter of an inch in over the last two days.  We need a lot more to bust this drought.  A lot more showers in the forecast though.

Oh I 100% agree with your post. The atmosphere is just not juicy enough and unstable to get some storms in the Triad/Triangle.  Once this cooler air erodes and the warmer more unstable atmosphere can get going then for sure some will get some great storms and rainfall and others wont. Def not a widespread even rainfall.

Last 3 days rainfall RDU metro area per Cocorahs reports for 24 hr periods ending ~7AM:

5/21-2: solid/best 24 hr period of last 3 overall with 0.5-1.5” for many

 

5/22-3: Johnston, SW Nash, S Franklin, and far N/SE Wake counties another good one for many with ok to quite good (0.3-1.25”) but W Wake, Durham, and NE Chatham <0.1”

 

5/23-4: widespread but only very light with heaviest only 0.06”/lightest of the 3 periods overall

Wedge cloud cover appears to be breaking up on radar in the east.  Should allow atmosphere to destabilize from east to west.  That is the hope anyway.  Only 0.16 so far since Thursday IMBY.

We’ve had 0.58” total here (0.51”, 0.07”, TR)  keep seeing these 3-7” amounts in upstate and Charlotte

Yeah some rather robust amounts to the south and west of you. Anywhere from 2 to 4 plus inches around here.

Yea definitely good rains around but feel left out especially at the farm. Monday is the end of planting season for cotton farmers and a lot of those areas east of here have missed out entirely. Many farmers will be making tough decisions this year. Also upstairs of falls lake has been relatively dry through this period, and the lake has continued to drop today. Wedge needs to erode so the rest of us can make a dent in the drought

 I’d love to have had 0.58” as I’ve had only a T total the last 3 days, which includes a T late yesterday afternoon and another T early this afternoon. After a beautiful 1.2” 18 hour long soaking rain on May 2nd, my area has been getting teased since with only ~0.25” total. But I remain optimistic for the upcoming week.

This coming week should bring in more rain.

From Raleigh east to Greenville has been the looser so far.  Only 0.21" for me so far.  Hoping I can cash in Tomorrow.

For the day so far and likely to be the same for the rest of today 0.00" here.

 Got a small batch of rain south of Burlington, NC but thats about it for the day that is anywhere close enough to the triangle. 

Starting to look drier and drier the next few days too. Just pop up T storms wherever they decide to form tomorrow.

The idea of finishing this period with <1” seemed laughable based on modeling but it’s quickly becoming reality. As is were under half the normal amount for the month

What else can we do but laugh at this.  This very similar to that snowstorm in Feb when we got dry slotted so bad here.  We got 7 days to go in the month but nothing looks like a game changer fore the piedmont region through the end of the month

Just a hair over 3" here since Thursday afternoon. Looking at the radar another round is going to build in over the next few hours. Friendly reminder, if anyone is building a house and using a plastic septic tank, please fill with water before any heavy rain moves in. My new neighbor found out the hard way yesterday and his tank basically floated out of the ground and snapped all the plumbing going into it.
