calculus1
16/15 Everything covered in snow/sleet mix. Mainly sleet, I believe, but it did slow at several points last night. The trees are not drooping at all. So, minimal glaze here, thankfully.

RAH expects everyone to get above freezing in central NC and last batch and most remaining QPF to be all rain. Thinking ice storm cancel? NAM appears to have kicked butt. Roads are awful, sleet ice mix stuck to everything. It’s 21 so I’m not surprised They need to be careful with that messaging. Even if temps get to 34 or so overnight, it won't magically make the roads fine in the morning.

DTP
29 minutes ago, EarlGrey said: What’s going on here? Looks like a rain shadow- most locations in that area have east or NE winds currently, along with higher mountains to the east and NE- downslope cuts off precip, upslope enhances. The above hole in the precip would be from downsloping; on the east side of the Apps/Escarpment you are getting the opposite- upslope (orographic lift) bc the mountains are located to the west and the wind is from the NE So the same wind direction creates opposite effects depending on which side of the mountains you are located. It will close when winds veer to the south and/or west this afternoon as forecast- the area around Chattanooga has S winds currently and is getting plastered with rain

Yes and at the same time I’m seeing a lot of mets saying that from the triangle n and w it could stay below freezing until after this is done. I keep saying… words matter. Plus, thy got the temps wrong last night. We weren’t supposed to get below 24 and it was 18 here in nw Raleigh. Thy need to say this is possible and this is possible and we honestly don’t know be prepared for anytime. They can think all they want, but maybe don’t say it all. Same for the mets on tv.

It’s not getting above freezing unless we get a heavy squall that brings the warm nose down. With how weak QPF is I kinda doubt that line will be as modeled once it hits the wedge. I think ice storm averted
Coach McGuirk
This storm is very curious, it's like there are two separate storms one after another.
