HKY_WX
NC IMBY - You will likely see the models lock in on the CAD more over the coming days. If surface temps are indeed in the teens, that will likely extend up quite a way. At least enough to produce sleet. Maybe even snow for longer than anticipated at the beginning. 8 2

Buddy1987
I will stand on my mole hill here and say the Canadian is full of sh*t.. you guys can pelt me later but i've seen this play out enough to say a 1005 mb low isn't going to just move a massive 1046ish MB HP out of the way. Be the first to go on record and give relative confidence in that. Unless the GFS has had an update or something, it used to LOVE doing that and then recorrect back to reality. 3
SECane
Back in the 2010s when I lived in the Midlands of SC I was stuck on the mix line between freezing rain and snow and got nothing, but sleet a solid 1 or 2 inches worth of it. It really sucked, but I’d rather have that again than have to deal with freezing rain or ice. I’ve moved further north since, but it seems I can’t ever avoid being stuck on that line between snow and freezing rain lol.

Mole hills are generally small and unimpressive. But if you want to make a mountain out of said mole hill, then by all means stand on it and preach brother Buddy! I don't think you will find much disagreement. 2

It either needs to be all Snow or cold rain if it’s down to preference. Having a big ice storm just means you’re gonna be stuck at home with no power, and nothing to do for several hours if not longer like I was during the 2003 ICE storm for the SC Midlands. Last Sunday was a disappointment, but it caused me no issues.

Buddy1987
@BornAgain13 GEFS actually was pretty solid for SVA here... lots of quality hits.. many more than amped members. There were like 3 individual members that skewed the mean imo.

Snowncanes
GEFS vs EPS low locations. Obviously the amped/miller b solution is not good for us but synoptically they’re pretty similar wrt SLP locations for the high pressure. Looks like the high over the dakotas is a bit stronger on the GEFS which allows less room for the LP to ride up the apps. Im no pro but will be really interesting to see how this all plays out. I don’t think it takes much to change outcomes (either way) with this setup. I think we will get a much better handle when all the players are sampled (northern stream vort, high strength, Baja low) so looking forward to this evenings runs.

Snowncanes
GEFS snow depth mean. Obviously this is not all snow, and probably mostly sleet for southern sections but still a big winter storm no matter how you slice it.
