Have about an inch on the snowboard so far, getting into a bit of a lull ahead of the snow squall line. Winds have been surprisingly feisty for most of the duration of this early steady snow with a lot of 25 mph+ gusts. So snow’s been blowing around a good bit.

It’s still snowing quite hard, I’m pretty sure I have in the ballpark of 2-3” total but it’s been blowing around so much that it is going to be hard to get good measurements. Temps just prior to the squall arrival were up as high as 31.5ºF and now 45 minutes later it’s 21ºF.

Looks like a rough go of it on the roads right now. This is the closest 511 cam to my house, about half a mile away.

Right after I saw the couple lightning flashes , there was also a few transformers that exploded to the north of my location. My New Year's resolution is to experience a lot more of those this winter, along with a couple big ones.

So I set my alarm and got up at 3am to experience the squall. While it was impressive, it wasn't the hardest I've ever seen it snow in a squall. In fact, at the end of my upcoming video, the squall that hit Hazleton on Monday evening was as, if not more, intense than last night's. That being said, it was still a good one and I ended up with 1.25" out of it, as my overall measurement was 1.50" which included the light snow activity that began after 6pm.

Due to my sheltered location, my peak gust during the squall was a paltry 8.8 mph, while stations in more open locations recorded 20+mph. There was no visible lightning or audible thunder, but my station did record three nearby strikes.

Was it a good squall? Yes

Was it worth setting my alarm for? Not really

Happy New Year everyone.

While I was sound asleep and missed the squall line. There is a good 2-3 inches of snow on the ground here between yesterday's steady but light clipper snow; and the early morning squall line. Impossible to get an accurate reading with all that blowing/drifting from the wind. It's now a very cold 9 degrees outside.

sugar coating on a great holiday season weatherwise and it was great to have the early wintery feel for December.  Not much snow OTG here in lanco, but many norther westers have enjoyed it since Turkey day (not quite entire time, but most of it anyway)Jan thaw next week but Winter looms beyond.

Here's to health and happiness in 2026.
