NorthHillsWx
Been stuck in a rain snow mix for a couple hours and back edge is here. Thought we might have a chance at a coating but oh well. Congrats Va people what a start yall are having
wncsnow
12 minutes ago, NorthHillsWx said: The issue is that without an established Arctic airmass it simply got too warm before start time. This wasn’t a situation where it started at 40 degrees and the wet bulb was 30. It was 40 with a wet bulb of 39. Upper and mid levels are fine, hence all the snow mix, but it is taking too much time to cool lower levels. Cold chasing moisture fail mode #1. Accumulation south of border looks minimal at best. Even Richmond struggled just north of main band though they are snowing good now. My cousin there said they have less than 1” even though it’s been snowing since 8 am. Only areas getting heaviest rates are getting big totals and there is a quick drop off on either side. Central and eastern NC could see some accumulation with some coastal development like the HRRR has been throwing out but this main area of precip isn’t going to produce much for anyone not in Virginia Define big totals? I think 3-4 inches (only in the grass) could be the big winner with this system. Timing was bad. Middle of the day, rates weren't super heavy, weak system. I'm sure those who got a nice snow globe day are happy. I would be too.

PackGrad05
nothing but rain still in southern wake.
Tullioz
After hovering around 32.2° all day, the temperature has finally dropped below freezing to 31.8°. I measured 1" of snow at 1pm, but it doesn't look like much has accumulated since then despite the continuation of steady light to moderate snow. Looking at radar, once this steady snow ends, it looks like flurries and snow showers will continue into the evening.

BG_Slick
In summary, we had snow for about 3 hours with a burst of heavier snow at the end - between 2 and 2:30 pm. Nothing stuck to the ground or even elevated surfaces. Still technically snowing very lightly now. Better than nothing though...

Tullioz
An additional 0.8" of snow accumulated since my last measurement of 1" at 1pm for a total of 1.8". It's still snowing lightly with occasional moderate bursts, so I might make it to 2" before all is said and done. 31.3°/31.0°

Agreed- that map is suspect. We have only gotten 0.06” for the event that’s telling me we have more than that to go when the back edge already moved out. Just random flurries now. No clue where that would come from
NorthHillsWx
Per trail cams it is accumulating in Louisburg finally. Cousin reports in Richmond they have 3” with plenty more to come. Not a bust there like I thought

With a few hours to go before the snow ends, some may exceed what was expected by quite a bit.

May only affect the Northern part of the county and will be relatively minor but I think will lead to some light accumulation in spots
NorthHillsWx
NE NC looks like a good bet for some good totals with the temps and sun getting right. Wouldn’t shock me to see 3-4” around Roanoke rapids looking at radar
