the_other_guy
I have 3 young kids…I hope this change never happens. For all the idiots living down south or in the eastern parts of a time zone, there are a lot of us up north sending kids to school in darkness. For that reason, I believe it will never happen. It isnt even that extreme here. If you live in a place like Ohio, it will be dark until 9 am. That is ridiculous

That is ridiculous kids at bus stops or walking to schools is why it won't last if it happens...that's why it folded in 1973-74 We close schools here for a dusting of snow, we're not running busses in the dark lol
the_other_guy
The fundamental problem with the whole debate is the angry masses screaming at a cloud syndrome. People are angry at DST because it gets “darker earlier.” It gets darker earlier because the days are shorter. The masses are angry at the shorter days not the clock realignment. It is like being angry at a square root symbol because youre an idiot at math.

Who cares. The Sun already rises at 8AM at all locations on the western end of time zones. And the majority of Europe has a sunrise time much later than we do due to their higher latitude. Nobody dies there. You know what is terrible? The Sun going down at 4:20PM

Those more northern latitudes also have a sunset before 4:20PM, hell in some parts the sun never comes up for weeks at a time and people don't die... 1

While I agree with you, the helicopter parent culture we currently live in will lead to massive freakouts and calls for us to revert back to the old system...just watch. That's what happened last time we tried it.

Most hated it and it was still going down before they changed it back.

I despise leaving for work in the dark. My body is telling me I should be sleeping ( studies showed kids learn better in daylight as well). When the sun goes down earlier, I'm already awake, so it doesn't bother me and the weather isn't enjoyable to be outside anyway.

You get used to it. We get a ton of days in the 40s now and even some 50s on a regular basis in winter. That's not bad at all to be outdoors. How about all the kids that do sports? It would really help a lot and they really do need the light.

SnoSki14
We tried this in the 70s and it was a disaster. Standard time is the way to go. It matches much better with our circadian rhythms. There's no debate

Yeah, this month sucks leaving in the dark, but then its bright again when we change it back in 2 weeks. I don't want it dark for months. I can take 1 month. IMO the two biggest causes for Gen Z’s academic struggles were remote learning during COVID and cellphone use in school.
