Definitely a tough 'local' forecast, as I had to give guidance for guests here on whether to stay overnight last night and then risk driving down twisty icy roads this morning (for an early morning drive to ATL), or just get a hotel down Asheville for an easier/safer start.....they elected to get the hotel.  Forecast verfication - Temperatures got down to 30F at top of Bearwallow Mtn, just 700 ft above me, so there was definitely freezing rain/ice up there, and it still 32F there at the moment. However we managed to bottom out at just 33F here at the Thunder Mountain Compound, and so it is just wet and foggy outside....

I definitely get that. I know a lot haven't been as fortunate as some of us in the mountains.  Just waiting and watching.

The mountains aren't exactly running above average most of the past 6 or 7 years either. Without NW flow snow its been pretty poor everywhere.

That's simply not true. I've averaged over 8 inches every year for the last 6 years and have even seen a couple of years over 25 inches. I bet Buckethead has been above average as well.

Most of us have seen close to or above average though.  Sure we are near the border but it counts as well. Honestly the Asheville airport is in a shitty place. That's literally Fletcher or Mills River in a dang valley. Might as well call that Hendersonville.

Good point about the airport location. I have thought that for years! Actually, an excellent point.I have had more than them, but we have definitely not seen as much as you border guys. I used to cash in better on NW flow events, but that has been way lower lately. We are definitely substantially below normal.

But, we have had some snow, which beats what a lot of people have had. I have complained some, but for the most part, I will just wait for the next one. Plus, I am a short drive away to see you border guy's snow any time it happens! :)

Asheville isn't above average that's for sure. They are as much below as the foothills. As are most of the Blue Ridge escarpment mountains. Closer to the smokies and TN border maybe average due to NW flow mostly. Synoptic snows are way below average

Every community in the French Broad River valley is in a shitty place for snow. Haha.

At the very least, Henderson County performs better with CAD events than it’s NWF counterparts.

Lol this is the truth! The Valley cashes in on synoptic storms but when the freaking low rides the coast like last year it's crap. Us mountain communities are way different from even Buncombe,  Hendersonville, and out away from the border.

Look at my chart of Boone. So you're telling me you have seen more snow than Boone during that time period? I think we all get caught up in 2 or 3 inch events when the long term average is still much higher than what we have been getting recently. What is your average in Maggie Valley? I'm guessing closer to 30 inches long term.

Honestly I couldn't give two shits about Boone, Asheville,  or any other place. I know and several know our local climate and snowfall.  Sure some years have sucked and some have been near or above average.  It really comes down to the local climate and local snowfall. It's can be very localized but that's weather. You Honestly live in a shitty place for snow.  You need a synoptic storm to get yours and we just haven't had that recently.  You do no good in flow snow either. Most of the time you are out looking in.

I had over 30 inches in Haywood county last year and Steve is very close to that.
