Hard to say where influences come from. Some could be inherent within one's self. For example,my affinity for bluegrass could have come from the Beverly Hillbillies or Andy Griffith.

Check out the weather maps from the 1964 Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Isobars, pressure systems, almost subliminal.  By 10 years old, I had my own Weather board.

One of my first weather memories ever was 15 years ago today. Young and in elementary school, I had many other hobbies except for weather. But my parents would watch evening news on Channel 1 (back when time Warner was a thing) and we all saw the bulletin about a blizzard warning for 12/26/10, for 12-18” (which would be increased even further the next day). Parents said they would do a quick run to the grocery store just in case things got too bad over the next few days, and referenced the 1996 blizzard as the reason for their precaution. I didn’t track the storm but I remember it being very windy, very cold; and the 20” of snow when waking up on 12/27. I eventually picked up weather as a hobby in August 2011 during Irene, but aside from run of the mill thunderstorms; the 12/26/10 blizzard was the first time weather became somewhat of an interest to me. If only I could have tracked it in real time

Too bad this snow (or sleet?) won’t last for long. Should melt within a few days, similar to the last one we had 2 weeks ago here

Temperatures around 50 on Monday with some rain showers. Then we get real Cold heading towards new years

Was zoning out last night and put on Fox Weather. For years, I’d just zone out with TWC. It’s not bad and better than When Alligators Attack or Ice Road Bandits or whatever series TWC pushes in prime time nowadays.

. i can't help but admire your set up there, however. the tree almost touches the ceiling; have you seen the documentary on the guy whose neighbors in idaho took him to court because he goes overboard with the decorations? pretty funny. but then, 5000 visitors to your neighborhood on christmas would piss anyone off.....i only have steaming now, no cable, so no weather channels. don't miss em.

Thanks! Christmas and Fourth of July are my personal favorite holidays. Thankfully, this tree is a Costco special 7’ for my 1950 ranch home with 8’ ceilings.

Biggest bust in many years over here. Forecast of around 8”, will end up with 2-3.” Even last storm had more. It would be comical if people didn’t completely throw out the most sensical model guidance. We were never going to have significant snow with a quick moving clipper that had a stout warm nose. Was never meant to be

This has to be up there in terms of some of the biggest busts within the last decade for NYC.
1. 3/7/18 (one of those days) busts for NYC. 8-12” was forecast and we ended up with 3-6.”

2. 3/14/17 was forecast 12-18+ and we had 7-10” of snow and sleet mix.

3. 1/27/15 was forecast 24”+ and we had 9-12”.

4. 12/16/20 was forecast 12-18 and we had 8-12.”

5. 3/21/18 (one of those days) was forecast 12-18 and we had 9-12”

6. 11/27/14 (one of those days) was forecast 3-5” and we ended up with 1”.

There are a few more minor busts where we were a few inches off but arent worthy of mention.
Needless to say, we’ve had some big busts. Similarly, we’ve had some big booms.

But this one just seemed like a lock which is why it probably felt worse lol

What about the 14th? 2 to 3 got 6. Busts go both ways

Take a deep breath and hug your family. They’re more important than this.

What a fucking disappointment 7-11” forecasted and literally got 2.5” on the board and it has stopped snowing… safe to say BUST!:fulltilt:

What's new. I have a hard time even getting excited for these storms anymore. Any storm predicted 6+ inches winds up busted. The 2-4 inch storms often times come to fruition. Whoopty damn do
