olafminesaw Posted yesterday at 04:01 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:01 PM Current ML lapse rates at 8+ and ML cape around 4500 near Fayetteville along with a touch of shear. Gotta watch out for popcorn storms with nasty microbursts, especially in the sand hills.

olafminesaw Posted yesterday at 04:12 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:12 PM Also this mornings sounding smashed the all time record for ML cape for the 12z soundings data set at GSO: 3,632 vs the old record of 3,588 set in 1983. In fact only four soundings have ever exceeded 3,000

yotaman
Lots of thunder in my area but we completely missed out on the rain but the outflow cooled us down nicely to the low 80's from the upper 90's.
GaWx
A dry gust front (outflow boundary) that showed up well on radar moved SW into this area at midnight. Then at ~12:45AM, a small area of thunderstorms well to the E of the main area moved SW into this area producing only a few rumbles of thunder and light rain, which continues. Oddly enough, after blinking off and on ~20 times, my power finally went out ~1AM despite my not noticing a big gust of wind or any nearby CTG lightning. Edit: Power came back on just before 1:55AM. Sometimes storms pick a spot and it just wants to rain there. You’re more than 8” ahead of our monthly total. Storms went all around my yard yesterday afternoon and last night. Rained for probably 3 hours total we picked up 0.02”
wncsnow
We picked up .31 yesterday and now have over 5 for the month. Parts of McDowell had lots of trees down and power outages.
gman
Grateful for the 1.08" of rain last night about 7:00. But the winds were bad and we got about 5 minutes of dime to nickel sized hail. What is amazing about the storm is that it came down from the north. We just don't get many storms that severe that make it over the mountains of South Carolina without breaking up. I guess it was a testament to how unstable the atmosphere was. There was large hail reported near the apple orchards in Henderson County. Has anyone heard if there was damage to the apple crop? It’s really not that bad out here today. Currently 91 with a HI of 99. Sadly, that feels fine after the last few days
