WxWatcher007
Just look at the deep ring of convection around the center. Very impressive.

They've only been in the air for a few hours and they are very close to home, so I would think they'll stay in the storm for several more passes.
WxWatcher007
After holding steady most of the evening, the pressure here has dropped about 4mb in the last hour. Not very breezy. I'm in Perry, FL.

Wow….textbook and classic feature of high-end canes. Idalia still has a high ceiling for intensity through landfall.
WxSynopsisDavid
Looks like latest recon pass has 123kt FL wind and SFMR of 116kt. Idalia is most definitely a Category 4, 130mph cane.

WxSynopsisDavid
Yeah this is a classic textbook example of a hurricane that featured steep pressure falls and winds lagged, took several hours to catch up. Unfortunately, the timing is not great as winds are catching up as Idalia sets up for a landfall.

WxSynopsisDavid
I don’t think I’m staying awake for that lol. Reason I got antsy and cross eyed, with the quickness I fired that post out. Really hoping Idalia would be a Cat 4, now the suspense and intrigue is killing me. Curious to see just how much more Idalia can go. With this jet streak setting up shop, it could supply one last rapid intensification phase on landfall.
TriPol
A little pocket of 31.5-32.5C water temps. Basically 90 degree water temps.

Floydbuster
I'm not convinced Idalia will get that much stronger. The eye seems so small that it almost looks ready to peak, IMO. 1
Rtd208
Cedar Key FL starting to get hit hard. It looks like the storm surge is starting to make its way in on live cam.
Radtechwxman
Yeah I'm not sure it will make cat 4. Running out of time quickly. Landfall could be in next few hours. Idalia is flying nne. Incredible lightning burst right now. Is recon still in there?
HillsdaleMIWeather
They've already found Cat 4 winds lol and with the amount of lightning and blowups it'll probably deepen a bit more

Also, the eye is ragged looking due to mesovortices rotating around the eye, if anyone was interested.
WxSynopsisDavid
The rapid burst of -90c in NW eyewall with new convection going up in NE eyewall is indicative of frictional-induced RI.

I don't understand why a storm can't jump 5 MPH in that timeframe. Anyways Cedar Key was shown on TWC and it is getting quite intense waves/surge wise. dan11295
While the pressure is not as low yet as some of the crazy HAFS runs from 24h ago its now lower that any of the 0z runs had. Also noting the lopsided presentation on radar. Seem like it wouldnt take much to get dry into the eye and stop intensification/raise the pressure a bit,

This frictional-induced RI is going to be incredible to witness.
