Then started slushy snow/sleet mix around 1 PM, and light snow through evening. Moderate snow around 9 pm or so, then heavy snow all night and wind gusts to 40 mph all night. Solid 12-13” blizzard over here. Only time in my life I’ve seen a rain to snow storm produce so much. There have been a few early season rain to snow storm, but usually only a few slushy inches here. This one was moderate rain to an all out blizzard. Amazing February 25-26 2010

I think I had 28”, it’s the biggest for me too but that snow though…a heavy wet mass with destroying power. Speaking of power, I was down for almost 4 days with that storm, bought a generators after that fiasco.

That storm blew chunks here. Dry slot city. Orange county definitely got some of the goods that storm.

The reason for it, Paul Kocin was on top of them that entire storm for the measurements because he thought it might break the single storm record total, which it eventually did. Of course to later be topped by the 2016 blizzard.

Initially the record wasn't broken with 26.8" and after 2 or 3 months they changed it to 27.5" based on surrounding obs and radar. Didn't that storm shake up measurement guidelines for the city and the guy doing official measurements get replaced or something?

It pretty much saved the season. Without it, 2016-17 would have been just another BN snowfall season to go along with a torch winter.

The front end on 12/5 produced for almost everyone north of I-195 and there was so much optimism for the next day when it became the big coastal storm, but like you said it was like Swiss cheese with winners and losers. In Long Beach it was okay to decent but it could’ve been way better had the Swiss cheese holes not happened.
