I hope so Ward. I appreciate you, Met, and others for keeping us weenies updated and informed. I rarely ever venture outside of this thread so it really helps to have you guys posting on threats specifically for the mountains.

Thanks Joe for the kind words. Yeah this has been an agonizing winter so far. I'm really not sure where we are headed after this week. So much spread and inconsistencies will the models.

Nothing much on radar but a good moderate shower now. Temp down to 28.7. Wind is howling. These dustings are pretty but getting old. We need a snow.

At least I can enjoy the four "F's" this afternoon. Fire, football, food, Jagermeister !

Lol! Yeah at least you got the four F's! Yeah we do need a snow. We have not even been under an advisory yet. So far this rear ranks right up there with 2011/12. We still have a ways to go but the current looks is not encouraging. Looks like the clipper system has all but dried up for the middle of the week and as for the weekend event I have no confidence at all in that working out.

These NWF and clipper system storms are when I am most jealous of you guys on the upper peaks. They often don't amount to much but i'd take a dusting on the ground over these 2-3 flurries we see down here. I hope we start to see a bigger system come our way in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the kind words Joe! Glad you have seen snow all day, it snowed almost all day while I skied at Wolf today too.

End up with a nice little dump of snow on my mountain top per pic of adjacent Waterrock Knob at an elevation a few hundred lower down. The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed.

If you haven't already seen this..average annual snowfall map: http://www.weather.gov/images/gsp/climate/precip/AnnualSnowfall.png

Rather shocking just how low the average annual snowfall is for the lower elevations.

Note the 4.1" at the what is usually the snowy TN line but at a very low elevation.

Nice Mike! I just don't see anything significant coming this month with regards to snow. This may turn out to be one of the worst winters yet.

just running some quick math those numbers don't add up. Just what we got over the last 6 years and march 93 it's not adding up, I'm not even including Jan 96 or the mid/late 80's winters.

They don't add up for my home town either, only 5.4 inches? 2009/10 winter had 25 inches, 1995/1996 had close to 30, blizzard alone was 18, 2010-2011 was around 16, that's 3.0 per winter last 30 years already not even counting the snowy late 80s winters..

Sadly, im not located in the mountains/foothills anymore, im up in Danville, VA now, but as the old saying goes, "you can take the man out of the mountain, but you cant take the mountain out of the man"

Funny you say that. My dad passed last week and at his funeral, the pastor made that same statement. He lived in FL for the last two years of his life after 67 + near or on a mountain. He's in black mountain now at the veterans cemetery, on the mountain!

Sorry for your loss, my dad is buried at the state vetrans cemetery also. It's a well kept place with beautiful views of the mountains in the background.
