As Natester said above, Cedar Rapids got all freezing rain with just a few snow grains/pellets at the end.  There is a nice glaze on everything.  I slept through it all so I don't know if we got any thunder.

 

The snow totals from far northeast Iowa into southern Wisconsin (10-15") are very impressive.  I'm not really surprised a narrow area really got dumped on, though.  Given the late season extreme temp gradient to drive the snow, I thought the nws and local mets were low-balling it with early forecasts and the nws was certainly late to the party with the issuing of advisories and upgrade to warning.

I'm sitting at South Street having lunch, and it's begun precipitating. Not snow though...

 

 

Forecast soundings have been indicating a slight warm layer aloft around this time that quickly goes away.  I'm more interested in what happens when the stuff in IL moves in.
