Jonger
When will the cam show no trace of snow? Jonger
I have never seen it this deep since the cam went up in the late 90's or early 00's. I'm quite interested to see when its history this year, last year it was gone around March 21st!

Jonger
We look like a bunch of stalkers... Let's face it... We are all snow weenies to begin with. Stalking a smiling wooden snowman.
Geos
Lol! It's a resort, I doubt they would mind. I see the picture I found on GE of the snowman is right here...
Jonger
Don't think that's right... I saw the Krupps resort sign at the entrance to the road that I circled. They might have a secondary TALLER snowman, just in case this one is buried
weatherbo
I've walked on top of 12" glacier snow on the road between Ontonagon and the porkies on Mother's Day before. I can't imagine Twin Lakes being completely free of snow before then definitely. Although, all the new snow that's fallen won't have the staying power against the soon to be April sun like the older snow will.

Geos
This place is in a prime location to see LES with it's elevation 1200 feet. L. Superior is about 600' asl. I'll say May 9th specifically.
Nelson
I recall having snow on the ground well into the last part of May during my time up in Houghton in the 90s. Seems like a good bet that the snow will stick around until AT LEAST the third week of May

Jonger
Looks like the cam is frozen. Does this happen very often? It updates hourly I think. Also, it takes its last shot at dusk and returns after the sun comes up. If you arrive at their office around 5-6pm, they will let you get setup infront if the snowman for a last shot of the day. Jonger
It's settled about a foot since the poll went live.... That is about 200 inches of snow compressed into 5 feet.

Jonger
Bo, the pic I have at the top is directly from the cam... So its going to stay updated. I guess to keep this on a fresh page, you might want to URL link mine to a new post. If that makes sense...
cyclone77
update: twinlakes.jpg Wow, that's still a crapload of snow leftover. Any chance at that snowpack being replenished any time soon, or will it just keep melting away?

DAFF
May 1st .... It's somewhat clear cut in this region so the radiant heat will burn it up a little quicker. Still impressive snow amounts.
Geos
Doesn't look like too much will melt this week, especially the next 4 day with 1-3" of snow expected.
frostfern
I'll say May 9th. There's definitely more than the average natural depth in that bank. Last week I was snowshoeing up to 1700' east of Lake Superior up in Northern Ontario and the maximum average depth was probably 50" with the top foot being relatively powdery still at that time. This is the ranger station at 1300' elevation. Banks 65''. Jonger
Oh, I'm sure quite a bit of it is piled up. Toivola had a max depth of 50 inches I believe, which is roughly 4 feet deep.
