stormitecture
I wish i had the time, because I would love to see how these high temps look in relation to the dew points for each of those days. Seen hot streaks before, but some years the dew pts. remained low, so overall complaining was kept to a minimum. With the high humidity...makes me happy....but seems to induce a little more "belligerence" in the populous.
eurojosh
NBC's local website says the record streak of above 95 is 22 days, in 2002: http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Heat-Advisory-Issued-161416235.html That's wrong...

RodneyS
lol I see that you set them straight. I just replied to your post there, noting that there were a total of twenty-two 95+ summer days in DC in 2002.

They have now issued a correction: Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that there was a heatwave of 22 consecutive days over 95 degrees in 2002. There were 22 days over 95 degrees over the course of the summer of 2002. See http://www.nbcwashin...-161416235.html

North Balti Zen
This stretch is going to average like 99/77. So nasty. Its just a shocking, shocking run of excessive heat. Jaw-dropping. Even for a hot regime like we have been in for a few years now, this one has been crazy.

RodneyS
27 Let's hope that history repeats itself. EastCoast NPZ
Did anyone make a contest as to the number of 95 days this year? Seems 1980 is gonna be left in the dust. Record looks to be tied by next Friday, at the latest, leaving another full month with 95+ potential. Seems impossible that 3 summers like like this could occur in succession - although it hasn't been as bad out here this year as the past 2 summers. -OA, +OA, Nina, Nino... doesn't seem to matter. So, next Tuesday is a possibility. Euro isn't as warm though.

RodneyS
Let's hope that history repeats itself. As I noted two days ago on the August 2012 Obs/Disc thread: "Last year's high heat ended rather abruptly right about now -- with a 95 degree reading at DCA on August 9th." I've now checked all years in which there were at least twenty 95+ days in DC, and in every one of those years except last year there were at least three 95+ days after August 9th. Here is the complete list, with the number of 95+ days through August 9th, the number of 95+ days after August 9th, the total number of 95+ days, and the last 95+ day: 1930: 18/8/26/September 26th 1980: 17/11/28/September 22nd 1987: 17/3/20/August 27th 1988: 19/5/24/August 17th 1991: 22/5/27/September 17th 1993: 17/3/20/September 3rd 1999: 19/6/25/August 18th 2002: 15/8/23/August 19th 2010: 18/9/27/September 24th 2011: 24/0/24/August 9th 2012: 27/?/?/August 9th (to date) So, it would be remarkable if there were again no more 95+ days after August 9th, but none appear to be on the horizon at the moment. Still, in five of the 10 prior years in which at least twenty 95+ days were recorded, there was at least one 95+ September day.

Ian
Fail To be fair, I don't think anyone expected today to get to 95. Guidance was there last night. I went to mid 90s top end on forecast tho I thought clouds might be too numerous earlier.
Ellinwood
Guidance was there last night. I went to mid 90s top end on forecast tho I thought clouds might be too numerous earlier. I think everyone was had by the clouds. Here at work we had forecast a 94 this morning, so close but not quite there. I'm still surprised we made it to 95 regardless considering how much cloud cover we had today. Downslope FTW.
