  1. Can't believe it -- 1.0 here for the best one-day rain amount since June 14 and the first with more than a half inch since July 1. The lawn needed that badly. 67 degrees with a breeze -- might take an early morning walk.
  2. HA! Reminds me of "Independence Day" with the huge alien space ships
  3. Afraid so -- NPZ said a huge storm missed just to the south (NP now lives north of Stephens City). Man, harsh. Looks like I have another little cell inbound
  4. Got a rare lucky hit and picked up 0.6 with some good CTG strikes. Looking at that huge line in central PA -- it's amazing how much t-storm activity that area has had the last few days! I hope areas that have been missed score this evening.
  5. The difference between the haves and the have-nots with rain this summer in this area is really stark. I'll be surprised if I don't get shut out today
  6. Man it's brutal! You know it's hot when tropical milkweeds are wilting
  7. Wow! Let's hope our little micro-deserts score today, because tomorrow is looking dry and we won't have another chance for a while. Gonna be nice tomorrow though!
  8. 1.6 for the month so far, and more than half that was on 7/1. Walking on my lawn feels like concrete under the crunchy grass and I'm getting big cracks in the garden beds, even with all the watering. 6.7 for NHK? I have just 7.45 for May, June and July combined!
  9. Hope we score a t-storm tomorrow. Off topic but I looked at that insane Feb. 1899 winter to see some numbers -- out of a 7 day period that year had 5 each record low maxes and mins, not to mention the all the snow. 10. I'm very happy with 0.45 from the edge of a cell that blew up just south of me. Some places just a few miles east got 1.8 in a short period of time, but I'll take the 0.45 and run with it!
  11. Edit: wow the one I thought was missing me expanded north just in time to clip us pretty good for a few minutes
  12. Here's a caterpillar munching on a tropical milkweed flower
  13. I use tropical milkweed in our butterfly garden to bring in the monarchs. Swallowtails and hummingbirds also love the nectar from the orange/red flower clusters. Being tall weeds (easily 5 feet), they look best in the back with stuff in front of them -- I use annual vinca and lantana since deer and rabbits don't eat that stuff.
  14. Got 0.2 from a shower today and 0.1 yesterday. Family in northern Calvert report a big hit and power out for two hours.
  15. Man there are some places in northern VA and southwestern MontCo that have really been cashing in the last few days!
  16. Got done grilling and whoosh here comes a surprise shower outta nowhere. Got done just in time.
  17. Gorgeous day out. Been watching those heavy cells training over SW of Philly and glad it's not us. Got 73 with partly sunny skies at 2:30 PM on July 3! Must be what Deep Creek is like.
  18. No thunderstorm action here as usual but did manage 0.8 total of rain from showers which is twice what I was expecting. Good for the lawn.
  19. Welp, that's 0.11 better than I've gotten so far! I've had three cells miss to the north since yesterday, including this one a little bit ago. Sun's out now and radar looks clear.
  20. Zone forecast saying 1-2" just for tomorrow night. Haha nope that'll my July total. No complaints on temps though -- down to 73!
  21. Glad I watered my parched gardens a couple hours ago because what looked like a can't-miss solid line went poof right as it got here. Nice refreshing gust front though. Better luck tomorrow? We'll see. I'll go with an over/under of 0.3 for the Thurs-Fri event.
  22. Noooooooooooo! Just heard my first annual cicada today. I hate them things!
  23. Gotta agree with you there. Our average high through much of July is 89/90 so I don't get why they count "90-degree days" which are basically average. I'd count 95-degree days.
