  1. I hope the HRRR is right too. If all we get is this dusting with 3-5" predicted, and after getting rain from the last one when 3-5" was predicted just a day before, it will be a real kick in the gut. I'd be happy with just 2" but I really don't see it happening. Barely snowing now with that lumpy-looking sky and collapsing radar.
  2. Those RAP fantasy maps would be great, but I am not feeling optimistic right now. Radar seems to be collapsing already over central MD. I'll be sick if this 1/4" coating is all we get.
  3. The flakes look like you'd see at lower temps. Instead of large, fast-falling wet snow, it's actually the smaller, good dendrite type snow despite being 34 degrees. Must be pretty cold upstairs. Already sticking to grass and rooftops.
  4. I watched the rain/snow line on Radarscope and it is pretty accurate! That was a good ground-truth test. Best app I ever bought. Lt snow and 34 now...my advisory says 3-6" (probably 3-4" in my zone) with the heaviest snow tonight. Anyone think that sounds odd? I just have the feeling that precip shuts off by late afternoon. If I do get 3 or 4" I'll be OK with that -- I just am so jealous of folks to the NE.
  5. My point-and-click still has snow after 3am with up to an inch, 1-3 tomorrow and 1-2 tomorrow night...I would be overjoyed to see that (even the low end), but I fully expect to see it still around 40 and rain by tomorrow morning. This reminds me of that Feb 3-ish storm last year where a changeover was supposed to take place with 3-5" or something like that, but we only got a slushy coating. That's what I see with this case. Damn I wish I had the means and opportunity to zip up to NYC or Bos to enjoy an event like this.
  6. You HAVE to go. And post pics on here!
  7. Mine too. As you said, I'd be very happy with half of that.
  8. I like what State College mentioned in their disco this morning -- we just need a little shift south: BLEND OF MED RANGE GUIDANCE SUPPORTS QPF IN THE 0.25 TO 0.50 INCH RANGE...IMPLYING A LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL. HIGHEST TOTALS LIKELY TO BE ACROSS SOUTHERN PA BASED ON CURRENT TRACK.

  10. Glad to hear this -- I saw those yellows and thought sleet? Still just very light snow in NE DC.
  11. Well we can hope. I like the little "typo" in the LWX disco: ...LONG TERM ENSEMBLE MEMBERS CONTINUE TO TREND LOW PRESSURE CLOSER TO THE COAST SATURDAY. LATEST MODEL RUNS SNOW THE PRECIPITATION SHIELD COVERING THE ENTIRE AREA...
  12. Yeah like you guys said it was a great winter with almost constant tracking. The only nit was the lack of blocking and so many events that were just 2-5 degrees off from being even bigger. I actually like a winter where we get some warm breaks but get several blocking episodes with KU possibilities.
  13. I can't believe I'm adding to this yet again! Germantown Lat 39.208664, Lon 77.251598: 12/08/13 -- 4" 12/10/13 -- 2" 12/14/13 -- 1" 01/02/14 -- 4" 01/21/14 -- 7" 02/13/14 -- 16" 02/18/14 -- 1" 02/25/14 -- 1" 02/26/14 -- 1" 03/03/14 -- 5" 03/17/14 -- 10" 03/25/14 -- 3" 03/30/14 -- 2" 57"

  19. You're right...we spent that weekend at my folks down in Calvert County LOL It sure looked nice when we got back home that night though! Road were really slick -- saw several accidents on 270 North as wet pavement had turned to black ice, including one big one on that HOV-lane down ramp.
  20. I don't remember the exact setup, but there was a storm on Dec 5, 2003 that was a "thread the needle" event for N&W of the cities. I got on the MARC train in Germantown that morning with 6-7 inches of snow on the ground and still snowing, and watched the snow quickly dwindle with each stop until I got off at Union Station to WET ground! That was one storm where being N&W really mattered.
  21. I hope it works out for the whole area somehow! I grew up in Calvert so I know how frustrating it can be over there with these marginal events. Every so often you cash in like January 25, 2000....my Calvert family were all calling me to gloat during that one LOL! (I got about 7" while they got like 20").
