    Imo, if the pacific is going to be in bad shape or not favorable to deliver cold into the US, east of the rockies, we will want to see unbelievable blocking to offset the pacific. I'm still hoping the pacific is somewhat favorable to deliver cold for us.

    Daniel, I believe it will come down alot to high latitudes and nw of Hawaii. Euro seasonal will be interesting in a week

    I will say this winter has more moving parts compared to previous winters in trying to get even a close match. Imo of course

    In reality, there aren't alot of good matches for this winter imo. Every winter does have a few similarities to previous winters, but honing those down will be difficult. I feel like more than normal this winter, but we shall see.

    There are alot of good forecasters over there in the other forums. We go through this every fall. Some that want a cold winter and some that don't. Each winter is different than previous winters and none really act the same way as other winters. That's the reality of it. Once the seasonal models come out in another week, they will be more accurate than the previous months so we will have a better idea what will or could happen.

    I don't want to waste the cool/cold air in the fall but hopefully we will have some in winter to work with also

    Perhaps the gfs scores a victory in not showing a system, but what it tells me from my untrained eye is it probably is hinting at a weak system but it will be last minute if it does. Euro was the first to indicate any possibility of a system, probably higher elevations favored.

    I believe the pdo and Aleutian ridge will be the main factor in what type winter east of the rockies has imo. We are in a el niño and usually an Aleutian low is prevalent and not an Aleutian ridge so that makes me think we either have a mix of both or we are still in la niña and the atmosphere hasn't responded to the niño yet. Sometimes in December an Aleutian ridge can go poleward and we get cold

    What are the chances that the -PDO can remain uncoupled or is that type situation hard to predict?

    Carver, the key for us to have a chance at a cold winter imo is less -PDO and more troughing north of Hawaii. If we don't get those, we probably be warmer than we would like to be this winter. East based niños aren't good for cold either. At least I'm wanting to see more central based is better

    What's interesting is that the euro and gfs ensembles have been hinting at some type of split or pv getting disturbed moving forward

    I believe the November run will be telling for sure. The September outlook actually made more sense, especially if we get continued decrease in pdo and trough north of hawaii to cool waters, because typically niño has Aleutian lows tied into them.

    The cold is coming and should be intense. WPO and EPO are tanking and ao is slightly negative. That alone is a cold signal for most east of the rockies imo

    Probably will be back loaded winter if we see winter weather here. They typically are with niños. Of course I'm optimistic that we see a cold winter throughout, but chances aren't good. A few tweaks and shifts can alter things as you know

    Definitely looks colder for sure. Hopefully we can get some rain because alot of us are dry. Not buying any snow except for higher elevations. Also, we all are due for a cold winter
