  1. Tragic situation in the south. I wonder if warnings weren't issued quick enough or if people just weren't paying attention for severe weather given that it's December. It looks like a big factory collapsed. Where would factory workers go in a tornado emergency, especially if there is no basements in the place?
  2. Rain gauges in NW NJ anywhere from high 2s to over 5. This needs to get out of here soon or parts of our state are going to be out of commission for weeks.
  3. Light rain at the moment, as the big stuff is off to the north and west for now. But, I hope that future radar is wrong. I'll take a bust to the low side of things - too much rain in that short of time on already saturated ground has too many problems written all over it.
  4. This could really suck for the area. One issue that is particularly bad here of late is the bugs. We don't live in a low or wet area prone to standing water either. But walking the dog anytime after about 7:30 requires virtually every piece of skin covered along with a bug net for my head. If you're wondering who the fool is out with jeans and long sleeves when it's 80 degrees and humid, well that'd be me and bugs would be the reason.
  5. Maximum dewpoints today are 80 or better on many of the NJ weather network stations. Can't remember seeing that anytime recently.
  6. These dewpoints are getting annoying and uncomfortable. Between the bugs, mold, mildew, and mushrooms growing in my garden, I'm ready for way cooler and drier days. Maybe September?
  7. There are several weather underground stations showing high 3, low 4 inch totals around Lake Mohawk. One is showing 5.45 but that's an outlier. I can believe 4 inches has fallen here so far, I'm assuming these totals are since midnight.
  8. Sparta, NJ has been getting deluged now for an hour plus. I don't have specific totals as I don't have a great gauge here but there are plenty of stations online. Judging by the radar, we're going to have a issue if this doesn't break up or move on pretty soon.
  9. Strong storm with lots of lightening is rolling across me now in Sparta. It's severe warned, but so far seems to be staying below severe threshold. It looked like a healthy bow echo coming across the Delaware River, less so now.
  10. Anyone know what the highest dewpoints ever recorded in this area are? Not that we are going to break any records, but I was curious.
  11. 2.8" of rain last night in Lafayette (Sussex County). Looked to me like the two hot zones for yesterday's heavy rain event were over the northwestern part of the state, and also down by the Cherry Hill area.
  12. Impressive lightening show over Sussex County, NJ w/heavy rain. It just knocked something out at work, as we all just heard a buzzing noise and the power flicked out briefly.
  13. Some stations in west jersey are already showing 1"+, and that radar to our southwest is very moist.
  14. Anyone think the high peaks of the Catskills and Adirondacks gets any flakes this weekend given how cold it will be? I think I remember several years ago this happened, somewhere way upstate got like 2 feet of snow on Memorial Day weekend.
  15. Ripping through western Sussex County now. Impressive temperature differences. Two stations about ten miles apart east/west are simultaneously reporting 66 and 44.
  16. The difference between the actual air temperature and the dewpoint. For example, if the air temperature is 70 degrees, and the dewpoint is 10, you get a dewpoint depression of 60. It's not a commonly used met term, but is neat to chart on a day like today when it's very dry and you end up with large difference between air temperature and dewpoint.
  17. 4.3" here of very pasty wet snow. Most of it fell and accumulated at 34° This is an entirely different snow than storms past. I believe the 0.5" QPF and then some. What are some of you guys liquid equivalents if you calculated it? It's probably a good thing we didn't get much more - this is the type of snow that would've started breaking stuff had it gone on much longer.
  18. Looks like the back end of it is here - precip has lightened and sky is brighter.
  19. Sleet just started pinging the windows here in the last 5 minutes.
