  1. That cell went over me. Sky looked very ominous, but aside from a torrent of rain and a good deal of lightening, I didn't observe anything severe.
  2. It's a neat site, but I never understood that rounding issue and why they do that. Every 1C = 1.8F, so it's not very precise at all. If they did 0.1C readings, it would be much better IMO.
  3. Was just outside chasing deer away from our flower garden. All the rain this morning washed away the deer spray. I'm not sure how much rain we had (the Vernon station shows 1.75", 15 or so miles to my northeast), but it's gross out there, and looks like we're in for another round with the movement of the developing storms in eastern PA.
  4. Whatever is going on up there, one of the airports now shows a 90 degree dewpoint (ties all time US record), and another one shows a heat index of 130 with a dewpoint of 88. I'd be interested in what sort of local conditions are favoring such extreme humidity today. If this verifies, I cannot imagine what it must feel like to walk outside, and the amount of condensation that would occur.
  5. Not in our neck of the woods, but dewpoints in far northeastern North Dakota are into the mid 80s, including an 88 (accompanying heat index of 120). TWC had a segment on this. Some confluence of localized events is causing extreme humidity readings. If verified, it could be close to the highest dewpoint ever recorded in the US.
  6. I'm watching that wall of rain inch ever so slowly east and south. Zooming into street level, it's overcast here, but 3-4 miles to my west it's been raining for an hour, and another 3-4 miles west of that is into the heavier stuff with hardly any movement. Looks like northeast PA is getting into some heavier training precipitation.
  7. NJ climate site is showing a low of 37 in Walpack. I had 49 here. Looks like local observer Nick Stefano confirms the reading via facebook.
  8. It was nicer than I thought it would be today - sky out there tonight is pretty majestic with deep greys off to the south and east, and sunshine out to the north and west, it's creating a neat effect. Temperatures got nice earlier - into the low 60s with light wind and some sun. Cooler now.
  9. Humidity is already showing sub-20 % in parts of NJ. Let's see if anyone reaches the single digits this afternoon.
  10. I had a pretty good run of sleet here for probably an hour, which covered everything but pavement. Now just moderate to heavy plain rain. Temp 35.
  11. I've already blown past my forecasted low of 37. Now down to 35.6 and I am starting to see a coating on the deck and in the mulch. I'm not an expert, but another couple of degrees and things get entertaining for a while, especially given the forecast precipitation amounts.
  12. I noticed a good deal of evaporational cooling here, which they sometimes don't forecast well.
  13. Down to 36.7 I'm starting to see a light coating on my grill cover and deck table. I'd imagine High Point and other points just to my N & W are starting to get in on some actual measurable accumulation. Update: 36.3 now and the precip sounds like sleet pinging off the deck.
  14. Rain and snow mixed in Sparta. More snow falls when the precip is heavier, not so much when it lightens up. Temp 40, elevation 800'.
  15. Cold morning in West Jersey, colder than forecast. Looks like some of the coldest in the region. I had a low of 25 (forecast was 31). I went ahead and put a few pansies in, since they are allegedly colder weather plants, so we'll see how they did. Right now they are looking pretty iffy.
  16. I just saw something on channel 2 about the snow potential.
  17. Nasty evening up here in Sparta. Lots of thunder and lightening, torrential rain, and wind. Brought down some small branches and briefly knocked out power. Still pouring. Didn't expect this.
  18. A white flowering tree up the street for us was looking healthy four days ago. Not anymore. I'm not sure what type of tree it is, but lows of 16, 20, and probably another 20 tonight, coupled with mostly below freezing days has done it in. I'm not even sure my daffodils will make it. They were up already in the last week of February and are only days from blooming. I tried covering them, so we'll see, but they don't look as good as they did before this freeze. It got me to thinking - with the warming climate, blooms are likely occurring earlier and earlier, as was the case this year, making them even more vulnerable to late season freezes, which will continue to happen despite the overall warming. This is probably stating the obvious to some, but I remember reading somewhere that things are much more resilient to cold as long as they haven't flowered yet. We'll see, but this is the most brutal late March cold that I can remember just based upon it's duration.
  19. Our customary low humidity days of March and April are here. Humidity down in the teens. Love it! Too bad it won't stay like this all week. As a side effect though, we already have special weather statements in the form of fire advisories.
  20. Some decent snow showers are moving through right now. Enough to coat everything again.
  21. I'm curious as to why besides the wow factor? There would be a risk for damage and power outages and with temperatures falling into the teens and 20s, I'm not sure that's a combination to hope for.
