  1. 6z GFS looks nice at the end of the run. Sadly its fantasy land.
  2. The GFS has been pretty terrible. A few days ago that little SW low was in the Great Lakes, now its in the Gulf of Mexico. A few days ago this storm was for Upstate NY, now its congrats South Carolina.
  3. I am starting to get interested in next weekend for a upstate NY/Vermont chase. Once you resign yourself to assuming this is eastern North Carolina climo and look towards the chase; things become much less stressful in life.
  4. I feel like I've been aware of PSU now for at least 5-6 years. THings have been bad for so long that not once during that 5-6 year period have I seen him type "Upcoming pattern looks good for snow". Sad.
  5. Screw mid atlantic winters. Setting up a chase into either upstate NY or Vermont to hit both the weekend storm and nexts weeks. Snow on snow. So exciting. I am so over things down here. I can't imagine not having the chase option and having to deal with this.
  6. How did I manage to spell American wrong? Geez. I must have been so excited at seeing my first bit of snow cover for the year.
  7. Anyway, I finally reached the acceptance stage of my grief. This year I am not even tracking snow for this area. I track for anywhere within a 300 mile drive and book my trip accordingly. Had a great last few days in upstate NY. Drove into some areas that got 7 inches. It was beautiful. Highly recommended. I will go back up there if any of the upcoming storms show promise.
  8. Banter doesn't discuss weather. No one goes in the panic room or futility threads. Honestly, there is not a good dedicated weather banter thread. Hence why it ends up in the model discussion threads.
  9. I've never seen the GFS so bad. Every run the last few days is something totally different. What a mess.
  10. The difference seems to be that we use to be able to do marginal events. I remember a lot of 32/33 degrees and snow events. Now we seem to be on the other side of that. Which makes a big difference. This storm looks like a good one to chase though. A beast. I'll be traveling for it for sure.
  11. Still have not had a plowable snow here since the Blizzard of 2016. So now going on 7 years. I am sure @psuhoffman will be along to tell me how normal that is or perhaps even above average for this area; cool. I am very optimistic though, about a nice chase to upstate NY sometime in January or Feb. Did ALbany last year for a foot. It was so awesome. Highly recommended.
  12. 6z GFS is certainly not impressive for this area.
  13. I was in Central Jersey for 93. I was 11 years old. I remember a foot of snow followed by warm and rain and then everything iced over. You could walk on top of the snow and it was impossible to move. Guy next door got tired of shoveling and drove his car over the ice mound at the bottom of his drive way and destroyed the car. Blizzard of 96 was a lot better.
  14. You know it’s over when the only people left in this thread are the ones that just enjoy tracking; even if it showers and 60 degree weather.
  15. Yeah; I am in Colonie, just north west of Albany. Very close to Albany airport. We did sleet for a couple hours this morning but now back to snow. Picked up another 1-2 inches. I was expecting this to be over much earlier. It’s pretty awesome just relaxing in the hotel watching it come down. I’d say we have 10 inches.
  16. Feels great to experience a real snowstorm for a change and be in an area that actually gets the snow! I’d say maybe 8-9 inches. A few pingers now but it’s mostly over. Now I’m addicted might have to do another one before the winter is over.
  17. That’s really funny! I guess there are more of us out there than I thought. But not me. I drive a Kia Rio with Delaware tags and no special plates. Unfortunately no weather station. I did tell the hotel I was chasing this storm and they looked at me like I was nuts.
  18. Chased this over to Albany. I’d say we got maybe 6 inches but this storm is in a hurry to exit. I think accumulating snow could be done by 8 or 9am. No way we get 8-12 inches. So it’s nice but it underperformed. Figures.
  19. I am currently in coxsackie New York just south of Albany. Under a winter storm warning and snow emergency. Goal is a foot and no pingers. Perhaps slightly aspirational but doable. excited! After all the mid Atlantic blahs; I deserve this.
  20. I don’t know. I’m chasing with Albany as my spot. Latest has me thinking I might head further north. In a chase; I have zero tolerance for pingers.
  21. Good. Honestly who wants bad icing? If we stay below 32 the entire event; that would have my attention. But the idea we get a warm nose way up into PA would generally mean any ice accumulation would eventually commence with its melting processes.
  22. My old non scientific standard that never fails me, you can worry about getting precip or you can worry about getting cold temps. If you have to worry about getting both, it ain't happening. Not one storm in my life worked out where I had to root for both.
  23. If you are feeling down about this storm; just visit the nyc sub forum. They have hope in there; despite many odds; hope is a dangerous thing with this storm for that area. At least we know the score here.
