Well, you will hear from NWS when it’s something significant…this isn’t a big deal though. And Gotta know how to wade through the nonsense, and gleam the real truth here, you know that. You know the posts that are legit, and the ones that aren’t.

Looking solid for the coast now. Stay safe. We'll see how much of the remaining precip shield makes it west of 287 and north of 95 for some needed moisture. Otherwise it's just a breezy, damp, raw evening out this way.

Ill make the claim now.... this is going to overperform on the mainland of barnegat bay. We have very strong sustained winds with frequent gusts over 50 now. The water began rising before low tide was reached, and its going to be a long night ahead until the 4AM high tide. Many boats will likely succumb to this storm, sadly... Then, my work begins. Brutal.

The wind is dead in the valley right now, very light breeze and some light rain showers. I bet there will be some pretty good gusts inside of I-495 tonight. Assuming it picks up a little here later on tonight.

Thanks Don, because our Thanksgiving always falls on a Monday and people travel to visit family/friends, almost everyone in Canada has their big meal on Sunday (today) as we are now about to do ... some wait for the Monday but I would guess three quarters or more of Canadians celebrate today. The big meal is probably very similar to American traditions, but we don't have any huge sales like Black Friday. If people are visiting they usually travel home on the Monday and it's back to work Tuesday so it's a three-day instead of four-day holiday here. If people have summer cottages they usually close those down for the winter either this weekend or the next. I don't know which country had Thanksgiving first, but I think it stems from harvest festival Sundays in some Christian denominations, plus the feast of Tabernacles in Jewish observance that has some similar features. People probably realize this but Columbus Day is not observed in Canada, some might know when it takes place, but Canadian weather enthusiasts refer to the Columbus Day storm as post-tropical Freda.

Wet snow is now falling here, coating on some surfaces. Trees are still in full leaf so if this would accumulate it would bring down branches. It could accumulate at higher elevations than here.

I'd rather hear from the national weather service. Many talented posters on here . Although some buffoon said it wasn't even going to rain. "gonna stay south, can't come north because of the high, we see it all the time, toss the models..."

Just in time for Thanksgiving Day. Have a great Thanksgiving Day, tomorrow. -
Could keep coming. Maybe not near us, but RI, Cape, Islands could get soggy. Looking at radar could get soggy near us.
-
HRRR keeps delaying the stronger winds and now only has it tomorrow morning for a brief period. Either way, it looks like the rain bands coming off the ocean now are a bit steadier than the ones we've had all day and models have an additional inch for many of us.

Ya, it’s fun I agree. But I wouldn’t read it for a mundane deal like this, but that’s just me. Now if we were on tap for 6-12, or 12-18, with wind…,we’d all be reading, and they, the the NWS, world have the AFD out when it needed to be. Don’t you worry…it’ll be there when it’s something of genuine consequence. But I get the joy of reading it when it’s something siggy.

Back in the day AFDs for me were one of the main conduits of learning for me. The Walt Drag AFDs and others really helped my understanding of atmospheric processes. I think times have out changed now and the days of weenie AFDs are virtually gone. Expect maybe for more extreme events.
