It was like 20 miles wide haha. Snow storms always have winners and losers. Sometimes you guys get a nice coastal where i get shafted. Storm tracks always determine the localized winners and losers here. But, that was one of the best snow surprises of my life.

A backdoor cold front cleared out the atmospheric for the best radiational cooling.

I'm not sure exactly how you would do it, but I know I'd like to see more winter outlooks or past winter discussion focusing on snowfall potential rather than what fell at specific points when possible. Maybe another way to look at it would be to say is this objectively a snow producing pattern even if it didn't occur at Central Park (or wherever). If we could remove luck (mesoscale patterns) from more of our analysis I imagine it would be more constructive to discussion of the patterns at hand. I think some of what @donsutherland1 has been showing is kind of a step in that direction. You could in theory score a pattern based on its historical correlation to snowy patterns to say how good a winter should have been regardless of what actually happened at some point. Just a thought.

I bet this is a combination of the Hunga Tonga water vapor injection coupled with international shipping cleaning up aerosol pollution accelerating/demasking the general warming trend of the 2020s. Did we really need to clean up shipping? For gods sake this couldn't come at a worse time.

March during the 2020s has been 3.8° warmer than the 2010s at a spot like NYC. So it has been too warm for much snow in March this decade. It’s more like an early spring month now than a late winter one we had during the 2010s. I am sick to DEATH of summer. I have HAD IT with highs in the low 90s! I want a Tambora. I want someone to tamper with the weather in such a way that Siberian fronts immediately demolish Buda Texas starting tomorrow with 85 degree temperature departures and north winds 30 to 50 mph for days and days loaded with torrential rain until Buda makes Kerrville look like Death Valley. I hate high pressure systems. I hate the damn sun. I hate summer. I can't move from this accursed place where long range forecasts call for no rain and highs in the low 90s well into 2026. The Polar Westerlies have been abolished forever. I demand severe Siberian fronts and about 50 billion massive low pressure systems that load cold rain on south central Texas until we are in the news all over the world. Freezing cold rain whipped by 59 mph northerly gales. Thick clouds in 12 layers until it is as dark in the daytime, as it is at 4am when I am delivering. I am sick to death of mid summer in late October. Never ever want to see that damned sun ever again! Everything is brown outside. This place is like the 1930s Dust Bowl.

We've had crap stretches for snow in March before but taking a quick glance back, this is the worst one on record.

It just stopped snowing in March like someone flipped a light switch
-
-
Yup, all crap to varying degrees. Only @FPizz has had a good winter since then when a 300 foot wide band of snow dropped 20 inches over his house.
-
damn I thought our stretch of bad winters started with 22-23, 23-24, 24-25 so we've had 4 bad winters in a row and not 3?
-
21-22 not good. You mean 20-21.
-
But how is it that the first high temperature below 60 has barely moved Chris?
-
wow no connection between October and the following winter.... look at 2017 at +6.4 and we had one of our best winters after that ! October 2021 +6.9 and the following winter was pretty good too !

I left my hanging petunia outside during that one night of 28° and it was unfazed. Like tomatoes, those things usually start dying with temps in the 30s. But yeah, Tolland has an epically long growing season. -
Thanks!
