  1. Past hour
  2. Obsolete-most of those are being torn down here and replaced with bigger homes
  3. 85 and a tad hazy. Hopefully lawn and plants can fully take in this sun and warmth for a while.
  4. My house is from the 50s and it doesn't have jack sht lol
  5. I found this going back a little further. From 1854-1896, that phase seemed overall cool I would say even though the chart doesn't outline that. So maybe this cool phase could last even longer? Hope not though! https://www.daculaweather.com/4_pdo_index.php This is pretty cool link for pdo as well.
  6. Funny thing is that I thought it was worse 2-3 years ago and then wasn’t as bad last year during the dry heat season.
  7. Mini split installs the next two days here.
  8. was probably an add on you could select when the house was being built....we are probably one of the few that still use it-but I don't like to turn on the AC unless it's needed-like the fresh air better but when it's HHH it goes on.
  9. My old house was from the late 70s, I think 77, and had it. It seems like all the split level homes in the neighborhood had it, but the bi-levels, colonials and ranches didn't.
  10. 1982 - A four day storm began over New England which produced up to 14 inches of rain in southern Connecticut breaching twenty-three dams and breaking two others. Damage was estimated at more than 276 million dollars. (David Ludlum) 1988 - A dozen cities in the eastern U.S. reported record low temp- eratures for the date, including Atlantic City NJ with a reading of 40 degrees. Fifteen cities in the north central U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date, including Glasgow MT and Havre MT with readings of 102 degrees. (The National Weather Summary) wow a 4 day storm in June 1982-- a few months after the historic April 1982 cold blizzard !! By the way this wasn't just a 4 day storm for New England, it was also for NYC and Long Island! I wonder how much rain fell here.... 14 inches of rain in Southern CT sounds like a lot of rain here too!! And it was 40 degrees at ACY on this date in 1988.... that must be the latest it's ever been 40 degrees there? 2 years ago history repeated itself and we were in the 40s here too! JFK: 49 (2023)
  11. Exactly...my house was built in 1973 and originally had no AC. It's loud but you turn it on and open some windows and the cool air comes rushing in-leave it on for 30 minutes after the sun goes down.
  12. 100x zoom. I'm not a camera expert. Thought that is what you meant.
  13. Probably was the "modern convenience" in late 1950s-60s before ACs took over?
  14. 1825 - A hurricane struck Long Island NY leveling trees and causing damage to ships. The early season hurricane, which originated around Cuba, caused major damage along the Atlantic coast from Charleston SC to New York City. Many were lost at sea. (David Ludlum) 1825: A severe storm of tropical origin swept up the Atlantic Coast during the first week of June 1825 with reports of significant damage from Florida to New York City. Shipping logs told of a disturbance at Santo Domingo on May 28th and Cuba on June 1st. Gales were reported at St. Augustine, Florida on the 2nd. The Norfolk and Portsmouth Herald reported "undiminished violence" from the gale force winds for 27 hours, ending on June 4th. The effect of the storm reached well inland. Washington had cold, heavy rain all day on the 4th with high winds laying the crops in the vicinity. The wind also tore up trees by the roots in front of the State House in Philadelphia. This storm impacted the New Jersey Coast and the Long Island area as well with high winds and a two-foot storm surge. A Columbian frigate was driven ashore as were many smaller boats. The largest loss of life occurred along the Long Island shore when a schooner capsized. The entire crew of seven was lost. wow, this was a hurricane that hit up here in the first week of June? what were the SSTs? a 2 foot storm surge sounds just below hurricane intensity though? Maybe a Cat 1-- any re-analysis done on this storm's track, point of landfall and intensity, Tony?
  15. it can't be 100x optical because that would necessitate a large heavy lens. I have a few digital cameras with 50X optical zoom and they all weigh over a pound lol. It's likely 10x optical and 10x digital zoom (combo is 100x). My cameras with 50X optical zoom also have 2x digital zoom (total of 100X like yours but heavier because 50x optical zoom weighs a lot and requires the lens to extend outwards about 6 inches from the body of the camera.)
  16. That was the scariest moment of my chasing trip. Standing in a field in Oklahoma when a bolt from the anvil was so close it sizzled before the strike.
  17. Man, weekend really not looking ideal
  18. Many years ago (early 1950s?) Isaac Asimov wrote a SF short story about a future time when everyone had powerful pocket calculators, and no one knew how to do basic arithmetic. Then this mousy little man came to the "genius" leaders to show how to multiply and divide. The leaders were flabbergasted by this wonderful "invention" but soon worked to find ways to use it to enhance weaponry. The "inventor", totally disheartened, then committed suicide. Approaching 80 here under hazy sun, still reasonable dews. Probably will want to use the AC setting on the heat pump tomorrow. (That's the only reason we bought the thing.)
  19. Don’t you run 10 miles every morning even in Persian Gulf dews? Why so much fear installing?
  20. Our ancestors put in so much time evolving, just so we could live in hermetically sealed dwellings of comfort .
  21. I think there is enough evidence that BWI’s temps have been off since the tarmac was expanded a few years ago not note that it’s more of a problem now than DCA
  22. UGH. 81.4/60.4 here at 1:40 pm. AC is on.
  23. Keep the phone at bedside to call 911 when can’t get sheets unstuck from skin and the pollen has jammed the door handles
  24. Changed the filters then slid the button from heat to cool back in April and haven’t looked back since. Though the 12z GFS says I might need the heat on for Fathers Day lol
