Rise of the Machines: January 18-19 Winter Storm Obs Thread
WxWatcher007 replied to WxWatcher007's topic in New England
Radar would suggest light snow here in central CT, but it's coming down pretty good. Eastern CT definitely looks best right now though. -
This is the general flavor of the storm i'm getting right now, if anybody wants to correct me they can go ahead. Scenario 1 — The Mid-Atlantic is impacted by a major winter storm that drops 4"+ of snow. (likely) Scenario 2 — The Mid-Atlantic is too far north to receive the brunt of the system and receives <4" of snow. (possible) Scenario 3 — The Mid-Atlantic is impacted by a major winter storm that briefly starts as snow before changing over to sleet and freezing rain. (unlikely) Scenario 4 — The Mid-Atlantic is too far north to receive anything impacts from the system and receives no snow. (very unlikely)

It even mentions "Watching a potential winter storm" for Chattanooga. [emoji848] [emoji848] Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

I didn't see the 144hrs Eps snowfall map, so... There's actually a noticeable jump north from 138hrs and 148hrs too.

Let’s hope the 10 year anniversary of 2016 this Thursday/Friday brings us some good mojo too!

I hear this kind of thinking a lot and don't doubt it because I don't think I've ever seen Kuchera verify here... my question is why don't the models correctly model this? In theory shouldn't Kuchera go below 10:1 in our area due to the factors you indicated? I feel like Kuchera is always higher than 10:1

vis is about 1/4m still but growth is not great, and looks like it is pivoting east perhaps we get lucky with a meso band as it rotates through, but I'd be shocked if rd 2 was more than an inch or 2 -

See, you had nothing to worry about when it was raining earlier. -

It's been snowing for most of the last 12 hours. We're up to just about 1 inch of slop. -

This is a great thread. Sometimes I feel bad because I just don’t have the intellect to analyze a pattern or break things down the way many of you can. The special thing is that this is a place accepting of all skill levels and all people. To every one of you who helps contribute to this being an accepting place, thank you! The one thing we all share is our passion for this hobby. We all express that passion in different ways and at the end of the day that’s what makes this place great. -
Like a switch flipped. Heavier burst rolled though and it dumped for a bit. Everything all coated up again. Still stuck at 32.5

If it is looks like it’s insane, quacks like it’s insane, it really is insane. That’s because the WxBell Euro AIFS ens snow maps have a flaw so major that the 12Z run (just for one example) had one member 300 miles offshore in the Gulf getting a foot of snow within a 6 hour period while the temp was 65F+! You read that right, a 2”/hour snowstorm with temps in the 60s. These maps are so flawed than even Joe Bastardi, himself, noticed the same problem a few weeks ago! If even Joe noted this, well….use these at your own risk. The regular EPS snow maps are otoh legit:

If the models have that cold press right we are going to want this thing to go ape and amp up to max potential I think. -
yes my son

I'm hoping the good Dr.King can use some of his divine influence tomorrow on the day we celebrate his birthday! and help the Gfs see the same thing the AI models are seeing!!

Said the same thing to my husband and kids. It’s snowing 1-3 across Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday night. So “3-9” total. It NEVER shows snow out this early. -

Looks like a double barreled system?

12/19/09 was a relatively high ratio storm, no mixing no dry slots. 12-14:1 thereabouts.
