  1. Past hour
  2. There's already showers popping up in the lowlands and into Southern MD. I feels like it's going to be a stormy day in this region.
  3. Sadly I'm in Jersey where the drizzle and mist only stopped like 15 minutes ago and still looks gloomy and wet
  4. Do you want them to be hotter? You sound so disappointed. The ones running lower anomalies are on the ocean or closer to maritime air. That has less variance. They don’t radiate anyway. Its ok if it’s not an absolute furnace everywhere.
  5. Unidata has a series on their youtube channel where they show how to retrieve data, manipulate it, plot it, etc. It’s all in python though, but maybe it would help.
  6. Even ORH with a huge site discontinuity (elevation gain) is in 14th place, while Boston is 23rd place (and tied with 2 other years). And pretty much everywhere else is well in the top ten. Makes no sense... wonder if someone could sneak a thermometer in there to verify? Anyone that keeps personal records - are you seeing this summer as cooler than a number of recent years like the official tally at Logan Airport, or is this one of your hottest?
  7. Good post. Warmer air holds more moisture. Doesn't mean it will fall as rain but certainly supercharges any storm that can tap into that moisture. Just anecdotally, total precipitation locally hasn't been super crazy. But there have been a number of flash flood events around the region with some of these heavy, slow-moving thunderstorms.
  8. Low level mank keeps streaming across LI Forks and Sound. Doesn't look like the sun will break out until even later than yesterday. 71/69 While the dews are appreciated, some more heat would be nice.
  9. With regards to AI - I guess one question I would have for those who work in the field - do you find that you're using AI some, and if so in what capacity? E.g. in software field I know sometimes an experienced person will ask ChatGPT "write me a program to do xxxx"; wondering if this kind of thing is being seen in meteorology; e.g. is AI doing some model analysis tasks that used to be done by a person?
  10. Below is precipitable water anomaly for this summer and the 1991-2020 normal. Here in PA the atmosphere has had roughly 15% more moisture than normal this summer.
  11. Wow! Can't wait to see what this looks like at the end of the week. One thing I find odd the rankings in some of the biggest cities aren't as impressive: Boston (23), New York - Central Park (15), DC (11). The hottest anomalies seem to be in places where nobody lives, like Elkins and Clarksburg, W. Va. (both 1st place). The UHI theory would predict the opposite? Not sure what is going on there. It seems some of these radiational cooling hotspots are just not radiating like they used. This very dense, vaporous atmosphere is wreaking havoc on overnight cooling. Much denser and vaporous than when I was a child.
  12. Standing outside while the younger Ms. J rides early. In the shade but the sweat is running down my back. Currently one where I am in VA is 81/79. Have to keep taking off my sunglasses as they are fogging up. Bugs are unrelenting also which the horses hate.
  13. I remember those days....we'd go have breakfast down there and be back by mid-day
  14. By mid day my kids don't want to go the beach lol We like to go early, like 10AM
  15. Today
  16. Looks like the best convection should stay just inland from the coast for at least the near term.
