It appears per radar that I’m about to get clobbered with heavy rain. Rain started ~5:50PM.

Edit: The heaviest rain fell mainly 5:50-6:20PM on Aug 2nd. The total was ~1.75”. Thus I get a break from having to water!

Picked up 0.03” (1.12” daily and MTD total) more yesterday evening but today has trended drier on models as the boundary sagged a little further south. With all the rain, it might be a blessing if we avoid a tropical system this year as grounds are completely saturated despite long term drought impacts. Earlier this summer I was adamant that we needed a tropical system to ease drought conditions but after the past month, it would likely be too much. What a crazy turnaround

A second straight day with a dousing on the way? It just started at 12:30PM and is picking up in intensity as radar confirms.

Edit 4PM: That turned out to be only ~0.1”.
But there’s more storms nearby that may add to this.

Edit: I ended up with a total of ~0.25” on 8/3.

Slightly annoying as yesterday the moisture axis was 50 miles too far west and today it looks to be 50 miles too far east.  We had a good July but not as spectacular as the Raleigh area and I'd like to keep the momentum going.  NAM 3K suggests Tuesday and Wednesday may be better for me.

It's not my week.  Sunday the axis of convection was too far west.  Yesterday it was too far east.  Today it was back west.  Did manage 0.28" in three separate events today so not a total shut out.  Things look hit or miss for the rest of the week.

Started with .07" today and then that one line just developed a miles or two to my north so we missed out on some good rains there.  But just now this little guy has popped up and has pushed my rainfall to .18" as its raining pretty good from it.

One of the twitter mets I follow mentioned this would be a hit-or-miss pattern with erratic rainfall, and he was right. Widespread rain was moving NNE from the SE NC coast and just dying as it moved inland just ignoring orographic lift.  Not sure how there can be such high PW and multiple lift sources and so little rain in the coastal plain.

Got fringed with that batch of storms this evening moving South to North through Durham.  Picked up .07" with that.

Otherwise yeah another awful humid day.  Next week looks like July again with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Ugh
