I’m here at Tybee Island with some friends in a severe thunderstorm that we just experienced! It was something else! We were inside and I watched it closely!

 Edit: However, nothing measurable fell at my home well to the W.

In good news the heaviest rain (1.5-2.5”) set up directly over falls lake AGAIN and the lake registered its biggest one day jump since the free fall started

So technical question: I know that outflow from one cell can kill another.  But how does any cell manage to last any length of time and sometimes move 100+ miles without always chocking on its own outflow since that spreads out in every direction?

Had a good thumping with the storms here today. Picked up 1.49" rain so far today. See if we can anything else this evening.

The short answer is shear. In simple terms, CAPE is a measure of the fuel in the atmosphere for storms and wind shear is what allows storms to organize and not choke themselves off so quickly (should be at least 25 knots but preferably more). Today there was not much shear present so it makes more of a pulse storm scenario where they pop up and die quickly.

Super humid this morning. My glasses fogged up as soon as I went outside. It was 85/80 at 8:30 am. High was 93 before the storms rolled in.Heavy thunderstorm right now.

We're in the Falls watershed near Laurel Creek (a couple of miles SW of the NC50/NC98 intersection) so we drain into Falls Lake.

We had  4.6" for the month of June. 

July was dry until yesterday, when we were pretty close to the bullseye. Most radar returns looked  close to 1.9" for this area, my rain gauge was actually at 2.1"

It's strange to see things greening up  in the landscape around here when  Falls Lake  looks like  it did back when they were building the dam.

Yall have had the most rain in the central part of NC and even though it’s been somewhat isolated it’s thankfully falling into the watershed. The lake would be probably close to a foot lower if not for the lucky bullseyes that have kept it in check overall the last 3 weeks

Looks like a legit cell just parked over the center of the county.  Hopefully that is in the Falls lake watershed.

Brier creek got dumped on NW Wake County this evening. I am just on the edge of Brier Creek and got .18".  My old house about 3.4 miles away off page road near Topgolf, 2.18" of rain there.  I am the rain shield.   Those storms this evening were just training over NW Wake county into Raleigh. A friend told me that a older man was stuck in his car on Glenwood Ave and Lynn Rd with the heavy rainfall. He was rescued out of his car.

Im heading to Seattle later this week where highs should be in the low to mid 70s and nighttime lows in the 50s. I may not come back with temps like that lol
