E PA/NJ/DE Summer 2026 Obs/Discussion

There's a tornado warning area that stops about 5 miles west of here. Also we're in a severe warning here.  Storms seem to be moving slow, been hearing muffled thunder for a while now. Mostly I'm rooting for rain, got a total of 0.50" in the 2 rounds of storms last week, and nothing more than some light showers the laat 2 days.

At 0.50" so far, the severe part didn’t really materialize here, but I'm looking for rain anyway.  Nice steady rain now, with a bit of lightning and thunder. Cooler too!

Just listening to NOAA Weather radio and heard the auto-guy call your area "Qwee-care-town. 

So far the rain band has diffused over me and I only have 0.10" in the bucket after a couple passes, with only light rain sitting over me at the moment.  Not complaining since I got 0.90" yesterday .

Currently 70 with dp 69 (had a high of 83 today)..

We received approximately 3.45 inches of rain in Lower Macungie during the past 24 hours, and it came in three separate events of more than one inch each.

This is exactly the type of beneficial rainfall our farmers, streams, and groundwater resources have desperately needed after months of persistent dry conditions. For once, the Lehigh Valley received meaningful rainfall instead of watching storms repeatedly weaken, split, or miss the areas north of South Mountain.

The response of the Little Lehigh Creek says it all. The creek is now at or near bankfull—the first time I have personally seen it at that level in more than four months.

While the heavier rainfall has obviously created localized flooding concerns, we should not lose sight of the larger issue. Much of the Lehigh Valley has needed substantial, sustained rainfall for months. This event finally delivered enough water to provide meaningful soil-moisture recharge, improve streamflow, and give agricultural areas the soaking rainfall they badly needed.

One heavy rainfall period does not erase months of precipitation and groundwater deficits, but this is certainly a major improvement and hopefully the beginning of a change in the pattern rather than another isolated event.

After months of watching beneficial rainfall repeatedly miss the Lehigh Valley, 3.45 inches in three substantial rounds is a welcome sight.

And I just got another pop-up type storm adding on more beneficial rains .

I finished up with 0.39" yesterday after a couple rounds (2-day total 1.29").

Currently a misty 68 with dp 68.

We had TOR warning but luckily didn't get one.  Was intense for a few minutes. Absolutely poured as well.  Power was only out for about 20 minutes.

Now if only the dew point would go below 60 I can open the windows. PECO bill is absurd!!

Our weather has trended nicer for much of the rest of the work week with below normal temperatures continuing through the period. OUr next rain chances look to arrive later Sunday and into the start of the new work week.

If it wasn't announced yet her replacement will probably be a female although I would give Chris Sowers a call since he's back in the area and a snow guy...
