As of noon on 4/8, snow pile along the river in Columbia is down to approximately 8" or so. This is the remnants from the January storm. In the weeks that followed it was piled over 20' high. That is the only snow that I know of in my general driving area. LCBC Church in Manheim used to have enormous piles years ago but I haven't been by there in a long time.

Gotta give a shoutout to Camelback Ski Resort in Tannersville. Not only are they still open, they actually made snow last night! They've already announced that they're extending their ski season into May this year. Should be interesting next week with the onset of VERY warm weather. Here's a look - the base looks really good for this time of year:

I remember after the blizzard of 93 there was still a snow pile only about 4 inches deep above Millersburg on Memorial Day. That was from the snow that slid off the Mahantango Mountain along rt. 147 north of Millersburg. That pile was created by Penndot when they removed the snow on 147 that was around 10 feet deep in places on the roadway.

Another widespread freeze this morning across the area with our lowest Chesco climate station the 24.7 at the Warwick DEOS. We remain well below normal today with highs in the middle 50’s, but a nice warming trend kicks in starting tomorrow and we get very warm with low 80's possible by next Tuesday and Wednesday! We could use a little rain but nothing in sight over the next week.

Today will be our first above normal temperature day since Easter Sunday. We should see some sun later today with temperatures well into the 60's. We chill back to normal temperatures over the weekend with highs in the low 60's before a big warmup next week. The warmest day here in Chester County looks to be Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 80's (1st 90+ possible near the Philly heat island area) Temperatures start to cool a bit later next week. Sadly, no rain in the forecast at all!

If people are not aware I wanted to let them know about the PEMN Network Penn state's putting a lot of places that are rural. We're talking about many thousands of dollar professional stations that put out excellent one minute data that can be seen in real time. If you go to the Pennsylvania climate website and look for PEMN viewer Screenshot_2026-04-10_095208.jpgScreenshot_2026-04-10_095314.jpgScreenshot_2026-04-10_095317.jpg

Those stations I posted about from PEMN have soil moisture and temperature at 3 depths

Plant Available Water.
10\text{cm}: Moisture for your Lawn. (Currently in a deficit/drying phase).
20\text{cm}: Moisture for your Shrubs and Garden. (Currently stable, near baseline).
50\text{cm}: Moisture for your Trees. (Currently very healthy and high).

Watch moisture after it rains and during dry spells. They signal everything

The rain past Sunday never even with dent on the deeper sensors. The upper sensor we already are below where we were on Sunday.
