Euro means absolutely nothing as others have said it’s been the outlier on massive hits this close in, not what it used to be. Do I think this hits? No idea. But day 5 is an eternity for all these definitive statements.   I believe we have a 1 in 3 shot at either

1. Glancing blow

2. Big hit

3. complete whiff

And a 1 in 10 shot CoastalWx will be satisfied w/ his total Weymouth snowfall! :D

This will go down as a decent winter, but one that had so much more potential. So many wasted opportunities.

I said the same thing for the 1986-87 winter here, the only "good" one in the "worst period EV-A" for SNE snow (1984-85 to 1991-92).    I ended up w/ something like 68" in Woburn MA (about 14" above avg),  However, it could have been well over 100" (unheard of at the time) if my area didn't miss the two Cape Cod-only blizzards in two weeks at end of Jan-start of Feb!

Does anyone have any stats on the January 1987/February 1987 blizzards?

Thanks! Newport had about 8 inches in the January event and maybe 5 in the February event. The February event was a huge bust for anyone west and north of New Bedford with busted forecasts of a foot plus across the entire region. A bust but not as bad as the February 1989 bust.

Yup, we’ve had a couple small events in the last month after the mega SWFE, but for the most part, we’ve squandered opportunities big time.

And even before that event, same thing

I lived in central CT and was in 8th grade. I remember that winter like it was yesterday. We had around 60 inches of snow that winter which was about ten above normal. Next year 87-88 was also good for us . I remember one of the Feb blizzards producing rates up to 5-6 inches/hr in the Delmarva. The cape scored a December blizzard in 1987 also.

The Feb 1989 event?  Ugh.  That was bad.  Coastal NJ did well, and so did SE MA and Cape Cod.

What could have been. Still very good but man did it leave a couple carrots dangling in front of us. ..

I don't think that way. I just had to step out the door every day for a month into a winter wonderland. Fantasy model storms is what you call carrots?

The pattern was clippers and big cold. You have 40 plus so far. Suppression depression happens with an overwhelming NAO.

Clippers this season have solidly over-performed, and some odd events that were surprisingly good considered the flow.  Recall that weekend event in Jan where there was no sfc low, and broad SW flow aloft w/ SSW winds at the sfc, and several inches occurred in interior SNE.  Savoy MA had 10" which is the biggest non-LES/OES snowfall I can recall for a nothing-burger system and winds blowing the "wrong way" the entire time!

CoastalWx always wants HRs.  Well, that's not how it works!
