A 2nd round gave me an additional 0.1" for a total so far of 0.94".  Thanks to the rain, my "low" ended up happening around 7:30 pm this evening.  About 7:45 pm, there was still some light rain but then the sun popped out in the west and that generated a rainbow!

It's currently overcast but with a bright sky in the west as the sun hasn't set yet, and 70, with dp 70.

As another note, my sis texted to say as they were racing to get out of the pool and inside, they saw a pine tree get uprooted and fall over (this was in Bala Cynwyd).  I saw a Philly Inquirer breaking news alert too that PECO was reporting about 250,000 outages in the area due to that storm.

Still no power this morning, current estimation is 11 pm tonight. One of the better storms we’ve had in awhile. Were there any confirmed wind readings? My anemometer on my station has been wonky for awhile so I don’t really trust it but I’d say they were easily in the 60-70 mph range. My 160 pound canoe flipped over from where I had it hanging on two barrels. From putting it there I can tell you it takes a lot of force to do that. Huge trees and branches down across the area too, think I read 15,000 in Levittown alone without power. One weird thing was how little lightning and thunder we had with it.

LSR is up and it seems the max gusts reported were ~55 - 60 mph - https://www.weather.gov/wrh/TextProduct?product=lsrphi

Just looking at pics of literal "snapped" trees and poles (versus the usual uprooting) seems to suggest that there might have been some localized downbursts/straight line winds at some locations.

I bottomed out at 64 this morning and it's like day and night compared to yesterday (with steamy windows).

It's currently mostly sunny and breezy, with temp at 79 and dp a more manageable 64.  Furnace will be incoming soon though! :yikes:

I think they also changed the product name from "Excessive Heat Watch" to "Extreme Heat Watch" too.

I have a forecast of three consecutive triple digit days to start next week. As far as I can recall, I have never seen that in my 8 years here. Can anyone recall the last time it was as hot as this forecast (especially for that many days)?

No. I’m nearly 60 and can’t recall a forecast with 3 consecutive days of triple digits. Fortunately out this way, my highest temp forecast is 98F…so I got that going for me.

Hoping all those without power have it restored today!

The NWS has the next 5 days here in East Nantmeal with forecast high temperatures over 90 degrees. I have been taking observations here for 22 summers since 2004. I have only experienced a "heat wave" (3 consecutive days of 90+ temps) but 5 times. 2006 / 2008 (2x) / 2010 and the last time in 2020. In each of those years we only saw 3 straight days with 90 plus readings. Other high elevation spots in the county including Atglen and West Grove has also seen very few defined "heat waves". This week sure looks likely to even in these higher spots result in at least 3 straight days of heat.

Detail on those other 2 relatively high elevation stations in Chester County where heat waves are so rare. West Grove with data back to 2009 has also only recorded 5 heatwaves - occurring in 2011 /2012 (2x) / 2013 and the last time back in 2018. Also over at Atgen with data back to 2012 - only 3 times in the last 13 summers have they recorded a heat wave - those being in 2013 /2023 and 2024.

Power went out right before 6p Thursday and came back on today just before 3p. AC doesnt stand much of a chance today so hoping it “cools” off enough tonight to make some headway before the triple digits make an appearance. Seen yesterday west of Pennington. The thunder and lightning were average but wind was no joke.
