E PA/NJ/DE Summer 2025 Obs/Discussion

Thankfully, we got minimal rain out of this today. 8 1/2 inches last month and 3 1/2 inches thus far this month. In contrast to fall and winter, we do not need any rain anytime soon!

A 2nd round gave me an additional 0.1" for a total so far of 0.94".  Thanks to the rain, my "low" ended up happening around 7:30 pm this evening.  About 7:45 pm, there was still some light rain but then the sun popped out in the west and that generated a rainbow!

It's currently overcast but with a bright sky in the west as the sun hasn't set yet, and 70, with dp 70.

As another note, my sis texted to say as they were racing to get out of the pool and inside, they saw a pine tree get uprooted and fall over (this was in Bala Cynwyd).  I saw a Philly Inquirer breaking news alert too that PECO was reporting about 250,000 outages in the area due to that storm.

Picked up .75" from yesterday's storm. Hearing chainsaws and chippers in the neighborhood.

Still no power this morning, current estimation is 11 pm tonight. One of the better storms we’ve had in awhile. Were there any confirmed wind readings? My anemometer on my station has been wonky for awhile so I don’t really trust it but I’d say they were easily in the 60-70 mph range. My 160 pound canoe flipped over from where I had it hanging on two barrels. From putting it there I can tell you it takes a lot of force to do that. Huge trees and branches down across the area too, think I read 15,000 in Levittown alone without power. One weird thing was how little lightning and thunder we had with it.

Just looking at pics of literal "snapped" trees and poles (versus the usual uprooting) seems to suggest that there might have been some localized downbursts/straight line winds at some locations.

I bottomed out at 64 this morning and it's like day and night compared to yesterday (with steamy windows).

It's currently mostly sunny and breezy, with temp at 79 and dp a more manageable 64.  Furnace will be incoming soon though!

I think they also changed the product name from "Excessive Heat Watch" to "Extreme Heat Watch" too.
