Beautiful out, for now. Little chilly for June but I'd take it over swamp weather. These clear blue skies won't last long unfortunately. Some models have that band of smoke moving north into our area by the afternoon

whats causing it to move north when the winds are coming from the NW?

May was a rare month for us when we were all over +5 around the 20th and only a little above average to close out the month.

EWR….+1.0°

NYC….-0.9°

LGA…..-0.5°

HPN….+0.7

BDR….+0.2

JFK…..+2.1°

ISP…...+1.9°

AVG…..+0.7°

AND some are solidly below normal (like NYC and LGA).

If the smoke is mostly elevated it shouldn't make a difference to people with breathing issues I would think.

It shouldn't. I wonder if people are even aware of it though. It should be mentioned in forecasts but most of the time it gets disregarded as just "haze" which isn't truly accurate. It's a shame that most outlets don't even mention the smoke at all. People who use weather apps probably think tomorrow will be mostly sunny when it'll probably be more gray with all the smoke. I can see the majority of this upcoming week being ruined with smoke yet the forecasts will have people expecting blue skies

Don't believe it ;)

Elevated smoke will ruin our chance of seeing the Aurora tonight during breaks in the clouds.

There's an aurora tonight? Will it be as good as last year's? And what time around will it be?

That's true.

It's crazy how now we see smoke so often. The only other time I remember experiencing smoke before the last few years was back in summer 2002 from the fires in Quebec.

How much light does it block though? We can still see the stars through haze and smoke as long as it's not completely obnoxious like what we had in June 2023.

I knew this week would end up being ruined one way or another

Probably better earlier. Apparently it peaked this morning so the West Coast got a show. Who knows what'll be left.

Enough that it will likely screw us up.

This weather is horrific

If you are interested in beach activities sure. But then again swimming would still be freezing even if the air was warm enough to go to the beach.

Or maybe you think the breeze is too strong?

At a pool party and everyone is freezing. It’s 62 and windy in June. Not even full sun. Brutal

Pool party is like the only activity that this weather sucks for lol

A June 1st pool party always had a decent shot at weather not conducive to swimming.

And boating. It’s been windy every weekend. Watching kids sports in 35 mph winds is also not fun.

in a few days it'll be fine. below normal weather like this never lasts for that long, particularly during a dry pattern.
