Well played. I know you know, in fact I think we were talking about it earlier this season, how sometimes you have to make your best educated guess.

That's what I did this morning (guessed).  Max error in either direction < 0.1".  I may be a measuring wonk, but I have my limits.

I didn't put the boards out because I didn't want to disappoint the neighbors.

The bride said there was a little over 3" when she left around noon. If others measured the liquid as well I might be able to back into a better guess when I figured out their ratios after I get my liquid total. Blah, blah, blah.

Driving through the Hudson Highlands today I observed a couple inches in New Windsor, Cornwall, Newburgh, Cold Spring, Fishkill, and Garrison. In Beacon there was absolutely nothing - just bare, wet ground. Elevations were roughly comparable - all less than 300ft. I've never seen that kind of disparity between Beacon and other river towns before. It must have been some kind of meso-effect with Mt. Beacon or the wind direction off the slightly warm Hudson River... plus being right on the edge of the main band... but that doesn't explain Fishkill to the east having snow. Fascinating... Congrats to those who scored today!

An interesting storm. I ended up with 3.2 inches here about half that fell in the hour and a quarter I got into the heavy band. 
 

I measured 3.2 inches at 10 o'clock. At noon it had settled and compressed and probably melted a bit down to 2.6. One last good band came through and at 1 o'clock I was back to 3.2.
 

Under old methods that would be recorded as 3.8 inches but now it's a 3.2, maximum depth at any point during the day. At least until they change the rules again.
 

Personally I preferred the clearing of the snowboard every six hours, or when precip has stopped on changed. To me that gave the most accurate measurement.

Beacons low elevation and proximity to the river make it a known snow hole in marginal events like this. Usually the Newburgh riverfront doesn't do too well either.

I know. But Cold Spring village (6 miles south) is even lower and there was at least 2" accumulation there. Fishkill is only 50ft higher than Beacon and maybe 4 miles northeast and there was a few inches there too. Snow disappeared across 1 mile of horizontal distance while driving at a constant elevation. I've never seen that in this particular area before.

The snow level on the Beacon side of Mt. Beacon was about 400ft - 500ft. South and west of Beacon there was snow right to the river level. It was just weird.

I didn't get past 2" at any point but it snowed for hours without the depth changing. I'll be curious to see some liquid equivalents around me. Mega foggy now.

I’m going to go with 3.2” as well, which is what the wife measured at noon.  I’m sure it was higher but I can’t verify that, melted to .23 although that includes some drizzle this afternoon.

Very. I don't think I've seen that extreme.

Daily commute back from NYC was interesting. No snow until Yonkers then further north the more snow there was. Peak snow was between Pudding Street Exit and Cold Spring Exit. Snow all the way until 84 then practically nothing until Sylvan Lake exit and it started picking up again further North. Didn’t look like much at my exit RT 82 until I got to my house which is 720’ up then plowable snow. My father said we got about 3 before it started melting/compacting.

Ended the storm with plenty of areas around here ending up with 6-8”. Second big overperformer storm of the past two winters, and I push past 20” for the season. Onto Friday.

@wishcast_hater it was all about the elevation here on the east side too. I went over to Brookfield CT and as I dropped below about 500 it was just white rain.

I don't like the trajectory for the Friday night event. Talk about 20 miles making a big difference.

Sullivan county is racking up this December! I’m just over 16” ytd here to your SE. Fri night event looks to hit the same areas so you should def be adding to that total
