Nearly halfway through the month and MDT is running almost spot-on average at 76.4 (just a tenth AN).

National high of 119 at Death Valley and low of 36 at Grand Lake, CO.

The Atlantic tropics sure are quiet.  As has been mentioned, they'll need to pick up the pace to hit their averages.  Although, I have a feeling Sep/Oct could bring some Whoppers.  We shall see.  Carry on.

Have a feeling we're going to get a pretty big tropical system in the GOM next week.

We were behind on tropical counts last year as we entered August, and it never really did catch up to expectations though there was one the devastating one in SW Florida of course.

I love model reading so you may have to ignore some of my posts (like others do).

We are watering once or twice a day as well.  Doing it after dark when I can...to avoid neighbor issues.

I'm not going to ignore any model posts - I'm just taking them with a huge grain of salt right now. I had people texting/calling me the other day because WGAL was going on and on about a "high impact weather night" or something like that. We ended up getting impacted with variable cloudiness and a slight breeze. Then, the next day I have to go back and try and explain to everyone what happened. Again. It gets tiresome. Sometimes I wish that my weather nerdiness wasn't public knowledge. LOL

Yea, that was what I was referring to in my posts from that night....they actually mentioned tornados.    I am not sure I am explaining anything to anyone.  If you do not want my service, stop paying or asking.  LOL.

Humidity levels should be a bit lower today before creeping up again tomorrow before a stronger cold front move through the area tomorrow night. That will usher in some below normal temperature nights with lows in the 50's both Friday and Saturday nights. Temps both Friday and Saturday will stay below average in the 70's for high temps. We should warm to back above normal by Monday before a return to normal late August readings on Tuesday.
Records for today: High 97 (1997) / Low 43 (1979) / Rain 0.90" (1917)

WGAL is in...

1) Top gust on Friday is 25

2) Chamber weekend

3)  Another fake heatwave next week in the "weakest summer" in many years.  If we get a real summer next year, people may be spoiled by this year.

Looks like models have eased on the tight, tight gradient which is great

Just a few short years ago I had 47 days at or above 90.

So far this year I'm at 14.

You'll probably get your summer in DJF, just like we'll probably be cold and wet again after the blowtorch/nonsoon of summer 2023.

I know I want another mostly not too hot summer next year and every year, really. I don't have AC so I felt beyond lucky and relieved when that first, truly awful first round of smoky air came our way in early June, I could help myself just by keeping my doors and windows closed.

I could gladly do a cheer: Below average temperatures, Below average temperatures, Yeah!! over that memory.

Low of 63 here.  I have serious doubts about the ability of tonight's frontal passage to produce much in the way of widespread convection and rainfall, which is unfortunate because after that the globals turn mostly bone dry for the foreseeable future.  Either way, a splendid weekend in the offing.

Yep, for some the pattern is going from dry to drier. For the rest, the endless parade of storms looks to be ending.

You said it.  To these eyes, a dome of high pressure looks to remain in control over most of the central and eastern US for the extended period.  I imagine we could see some heat records falling across parts of the Midwest.  This look from the WPC pretty much tells the story -- a late summertime look we know all too well ha......

Agree that the rain this next 24 hours is a lottery.    That is one reason I am done with full yard mowing for the summer and maybe even until next year.  I will have to mow a few small areas under trees and when leaves are on the ground.

I'm hoping for some water tonight but actual expectations are very low. Some hint of a shower opportunity with a front around next Tuesday evening but otherwise...

Interesting thing about the GFS is that only a few days are hot and some are later in the month.  No heat wave next week.   Actually has potential area wide 40's on Aug 31.  I know, it is all going to change but as of now it is not a hot look for our corner.
