2022-2023 Fall/Winter Mountains Thread

Morning low of 34 this morning with heavy frost to the Valley floor. The trend with Ian has shifted E and that would suggest a sharp gradient as to where the heaviest rain will fall. Tricky forecast and several planned Festivities for the weekend have been canceled.

I had a low of 42 this morning. Not sure we are going to get much rain at all here in Maggie, let alone wind gusts. I noticed that Asheville rainfall totals have dropped to less than a 1/2 inch. I can see blue skies over the Smokies.

Chilly dreary fall day out there. My temperature has not risen above 52 all day. Homemade chicken and dumplings are cooking and seemed appropriate for a day like today. Thankfully we escaped the gusty winds and only a light gentle rain fell overnight. I suspect the Smokies about to put on a show for the leaf lookers. In less than 2 months the ski season begins!

Looks like a hard freeze in the mountains this coming weekend and our first frost threat outside the mountains for the southern foothills. The last time we had a early frost freeze was the first week of October 2014 for the southern foothills. It's been awhile. That's 3 weeks ahead of schedule for our area. I can't wait. Bring it. I love this weather. Bring the cold.
