Ya I don’t know enough to say wether the debt portion really hurts us. If the economy grows to out pace it then it doesn’t really matter I guess. You’re spot on with the spending...I know for my wife and I the entire 1st 4K would be blown on crap we don’t need lol.

Exactly. The major factor in allowing the USA to have such a great economy is the fact that none of us save any money and spend spend spend. It helps drive corporate earnings higher and higher and then they increase dividends and reinvest in new tech and on and on we go.

The government has helped me a lot during these trying times between the stimulus check and the extra$600 in unemployment plus 13 week extension..It's hard for me to expect much more, I even think that's over kill lol  1 more lump sum stimulus check wouldn't surprise me though..

I was able to find a decent quote for private health insurance, $232 a month .

Free yearly wellness check

$25 doctor visit

$50 specialist

$75 hospital

80% coverage on medication, generic or named brand..

Kicks in may 15, so that makes me feel a little better about things..lol

Glad you were able to find something. I still think it's ridiculous to pay that much a month as we, the people, have definitely lost control/power when it comes to the healthcare industry.

I know there was NO WAY I could afford the $900 a month health insurance that seems like the average.

Not sure about that...It could just go and sit in the banks or some private accounts in the Caymans.

$2000 a month is absurd. I haven't looked into it, so I don't know who the recipients would be. Sounds like more excuses for people to NOT find jobs. That's like a lower middle-class monthly pay.

I think the point about not encouraging people to work is why they will give it to both the employed and unemployed. We’re already seeing people not wanna work because of the extra $600 being given out weekly to unemployed. I hope to hell the $2000 sunsets the $600/week though...other wise you could be taking home about $8100 a month unemployed, with all but $2k of that untaxed.

Unemployment is taxable as normal payroll income is.

If I'm not allowed to travel all year I plan to remodel my kitchen, bathroom, and fix my fence. I'll be helping the local contractors, lowes, home depot, and walmarts of the world. All of the money will be reinvested back into the market.

Don’t forget Lenco. That place is freaking awesome, at least the one at Sheridan and transit. You’ll never wanna shop at HD or Lowe’s again.

The whole thing just confuses me. I am definitely not a financial expert so I will step back on that and learn from some of you other guys.

Perhaps the U.S. feels more comfortable going into huge debt because pretty much the whole world is struggling financially right now?

All income is taxable except HSAs used for health expenses and social security income if you make under a certain amount each year. I think these are the only 2? Are there any other sources of income that aren't taxed?

I’m pretty sure the $600 per week they’re giving right now is untaxed, as is the stimulus checks.

Think about this. Canadas GDP is 1.7 trillion, Californias is 2.75 trillion. Canada is giving their unemployed workers $2k a month for 6 months. USA can go into debt because we still have the safest debt in the world. If the USA fails the entire world fails. China desperately wants to change that fact. They want to be number 1 badly. I love what Trump did to them these last few years.

That's prob just NY state taking their cut. lol

Kind of crazy that its taxed but i guess it makes sense because everyone's liabilities are different.

Trump raised consumer prices on Americans and decimated the farming industry. You’re smarter than this BW. Tariffs don’t work the way you or Trump think.

Thanks for that explanation. Interesting...makes one wonder where we would be right now in relationship to China during this Pandemic if he wasn't the president.

Links?

The only feedback I've read about farming and Trump is that him rolling back some of the EPA watershed rules was a godsend for them. And that China is finally buying rice from the US due to China lowering tariffs.

I will say I was NOT happy when Trump cut funding towards taking care of the Great Lakes. Those large freshwater ecosystems are vital for so many things...including local wildlife but also for human use. He has done a number (negatively) to our country's National Parks system too.

We don’t need links, it’s just the basic numbers from the past few years. Trade wars squeeze the consumer and we all saw the stories of literal mountains of soybeans sitting on the plains.  We all saw the massive insane socialist bailout when tariffs rocked the agriculture section.  It’s clear as crystal. You are also smarter than this. Most sides agree the trade war accomplished nothjng excepting ****ing us over.

Canada debt to gdp is 34%
the USAs debt to gdp is somewhere near 105%

This obviously shows we are straight hemorrhaging money and in a far worse place than Canada to be handing out stacks of free cash.

Earning and bankruptcies are going to be an all time high the next quarter.  Corporations will squirrel away any extra money. The consumers will get spooked and save money just like they did after 2008. The US is in for some massive pain. The oil market getting wrecked is icing on the cake for a huge portion of high pay blue collar jobs.  We are getting very close to not being able to print our way out of a real mess when we can’t even afford interest payments.

I honestly don't know enough about the trade wars to make a comment aside from us needing to do something about literally everything being made in China. I want our country to start making more products instead of relying entirely on the servicing industry.

I wouldn't call $13B over two years a massive bailout. Farmers are doing just fine.

I'll gladly pay a little more for something made in america than something made in china, now more than ever. Why should china get away with charging a 25% tariff on cars manufactured here when we only charge 2.5% on cars imported here? You ever hear of eastman and westman? Eastman is right here in Buffalo. Westman china.

They both made these...

Not going to go too far into this...yes farmers took a hit. No bueno.  The point of the tariffs was in part to send the message to China we can stop feeding them anytime.

Australia was recently threatened economically by China, and they may come to the same conclusion that the US did, and stop feeding China as well.  Neither country wants to be bullied by China

China cannot feed itself.  Of all the threats to China, this is near the top.  They need food imports.  If China is perceived and understood to be materially reckless with the virus by the western world, and they decide to sanction and choke China, they can.  The implications are huge.
