The expanded area was due to the concern that propogation of the line would spark storms deeper into MD, similar to June 2012 / 2013.  I agree with you though that if they left it the same as the morning SWODY1 that it would've been okay.  NOVA and WV look like they're gonna get smacked pretty good.

I am LOVIN this frontal boundary, I have received nice rains with it. I wish the boundary could stay for a month. There's nothin, like a good flood.

What I don't like, is high winds. I just got finished cleaning up after March 1-2. I don't need more 70 mph gusts lol

SOURCE...Radar indicated. at 521 pm, Golfball sized hail was
         reported in kearneysville.

IMPACT...Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. Hail is large
         enough to dent and damage vehicles. Some hail damage to
         roofs, siding, and windows is possible.

Locations impacted include...
Winchester, Front Royal, Strasburg, Charles Town, Woodstock,
