Random Chaos
looks like DC Split may end up over silver spring lol Wait, what DC split? Look at the terminal radar out of BWI. The split seems to be entirely an artifact of the squall line being right on top of IAD.

SPsnowman
salt truck just sped into my neighborhood and dumped a bunch of fresh salt on our roads here in Severna park. seems a bit dramatic.
vinylfreak89
Wait, what DC split? Look at the terminal radar out of BWI. The split seems to be entirely an artifact of the squall line being right on top of IAD. Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.41.26 PM.png the so called "split" is due to the radar beam tilting upward as it scans away from the radar. Returns that are closest to the radar appear lightest. The TDWR out of BWI will show higher reflectivity as its beam is hitting a higher point in the atmosphere than the KLWX radar is.
midatlanticweather
Band is widening quite a bit. Still doing well here but my fun seems short lived. We have .5" though in less than 30 mins!!

The split seems to be entirely an artifact of the squall line being right on top of IAD. Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.41.26 PM.png Correct...it is often falsely assumed that there is a "DC split" when in fact it is the LWX radar beam hitting Bull Run Mountain and reflectivity is lost.
