Most soundings don't appear to get mid-level wet bulb temps above 1C until after 06z, especially north of I-287. By that time average model QPF looks to be about .1" Snow could survive a column like that so a coating to 1" isn't out of the question. But in light precipitation events I usually assume the warm mid-levels will win out. And I expect more sleet than snow.

Up here in the lowlands of the Hudson Valley we just hit our daily high of 35F. Fortunately the dewpoint is still low.
