  3. From OKX AFD: Fcst models show a developing axis of elevated instability with MUCAPE up to 500 J/kg moving across the NYC metro area and Long Island this afternoon, right on the back edge of the rain shield, and have added isolated thunder to the forecast for those areas.
  4. Measured .75 total with both .25 with the first wave and .50 from the second. Wind gusted to 29 mph with the first wave and 25 with the second.

  8. 1.20 inches of plain rain at my station in Sheepshead Bay. Over 6.5 inches for the month so far.
  9. I’m driving on West St by the Freedom Tower. Some big (but very thin) pieces of ice falling down from the tower to the ground.
  10. WWA expanded to include Long Island and southern Queens. JFK temp is 32.

  15. With temps progged to fall below freezing, a rain to snow transition and precipitation continuing to fall, I think a major problem will be any untreated road surfaces freezing up eventually as the morning progresses.
  16. Feb 78 still gets my vote. I was a kid but remember it well. The huge drifts that were everywhere was amazing. One side of the street had asphalt showing while the other was buried under drifts. Dec 2010 came close with the drifting.

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible in this band of moderate to heavy snow. Visibilities will drop quickly in the snow and may be reduced to less than a mile at times. Locations impacted include... New York, Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, Passaic, Bayonne, Wayne, Hoboken, Bloomfield, Hackensack, Linden, Bergenfield, Paramus and Ridgewood.
  18. Light wet snow falling in Sheepshead Bay. Temp 34. Radar echoes shrinking. Maybe a coating to in inch? We will see.

  20. NYC OEM just put out an advisory for intermittent wind gusts of 40 mph.

  22. Also had some decent coastal flooding if I remember correctly.
