  1. As we were packing up to come home from OC early yesterday morning, we had a surprise thunderstorm develop literally a few thousand feet to the east and move away, which I was glad for since we were loading the car. I got to see some great lightning strikes over the water and could see the heavy curtain of rain maybe 2000 feet away. I tried taking a pic but it didn't work. It was a good view of what it looks like when I get Germantowned with a storm missing me by a mile or two. Here is what it looked like on radar as it blew up
  2. According to the iweathernet map my location got another 1.08" after getting about 1" earlier this week. Amazing! Maybe more tomorrow?
  3. Surprise cell formed over Dewey Beach and slid east and faded, now another forming near Bethany which is close. It's funny for me to be rooting for storms to miss me for once!
  4. Whew hx already 103 here in Ocean City, but that might be as bad as it gets. Each day has been stinking hot by 10-11 am, then the S breeze kicks in and it get nice. Same expected today with S wind of around 10 mph. Hoping to score some thunderstorms at home on Saturday, but I know Germantown...
  5. Might be a little wet but those temps Sunday into early next week are looking nice
  6. Whew boy it's a hot one in OCMD today -- 88/78 with hx 102 and a light west wind. I am hoping that swings around to S at about 10 mph and the temp will back off a little. Still nothing like when we used to go to Atlantic Beach, NC where it could be 92/78 at 9 pm
  7. My sister was up at a place called Jellystone Park in Williamsport, MD when a severe storm hit this afternoon. A large oak tree smashed her nice RV and it is totaled. Thankfully no one was in it at the time. She is heartbroken.
  8. A relative told us of her friend that had those mite bites and scratched her shoulder so much she got an infection and went to a walk-in clinic. They found a line moving down her arm and told her go to the ER right away. She ended up on I.V. antibiotics.
  9. Checked in on Germandesert and saw 0.00 as expected. I'm glad my neighbor is watering our deck plants and garden bed or we would have returned to everything dead with 90s and zero rain all week. It will not rain there again for weeks.
  10. Man what did the Delaware beaches do to deserve this! Clouded up here in OC and most left the beach but no rain, but man DE is getting pounded -- practically the whole state is filled with heavy thunderstorms.
  11. Been a rainy afternoon and evening in OC MD. Rainfall map has 1.46 for my location in north OC, with some 3.5 inch amounts not too far to the west. Got one period of wind swept heavy rain and winds of about 35. Weather looking great starting tomorrow. I watered the garden back at the desert real heavy this morning.
  12. After this past winter I don't buy anything the Euro shows. Topper Shutt to the Euro: "We had a great run...but it's over."
  13. DCA still with just three 95-degree days so far. We'll see if any are added next week.
  14. Nice picture Weather Will! That view looks just like the one we had last year at Braemar Towers.
  15. We are in OCMD next week. I feel fortunate with the way it's looking. We used to go to the Atlantic Beach, NC area -- looks terrible down there this week!
  16. Just gorgeous out 75 degrees at 1 PM with sun. I would like to request this troughiness in Jan/Feb please. Thanks
  17. We moved to Calvert in fall of 1978 and the house did not have AC! Oh man were we hot. My parents finally got AC in 1990
  18. A quick look at monthly averages doesn't show anything too extraordinary for August in the 70s and 80s -- 1980 was a nasty summer though! August is a pretty nice month here with the average high at DCA going from 88 to 84.
  19. Yeah here too man! DCA has only recorded 3 days of 95 or higher so far. It's August 2 and my area woke up to a chilly 55 degrees and we are looking at highs in upper 70s to near 80 all week.
  20. I was just reading the disco for that area -- oh man I feel bad for the folks vacationing at the Outer Banks this week: Tuesday through Thursday...A very wet three days are on tap for the middle of the week. The unseasonably strong trough over the southern Appalachians remains in place (potentially cutting a low off at its base), ensuring that a deep tropical moisture belt remains over the area. PWAT values of 2-2.5 inches prevail through the period. At the surface, the boundary will generally remain along the coast, with several weak waves riding along it about every 18 to 24 hours, leading to periods of increased rainfall coverage and intensity. The heaviest rainfall is currently expected to fall along and east of the boundary, with 3 day QPF in the neighborhood of 6-8 inches along and south of US Hwy 17...
  21. I caught a brief but heavy shower! No not here -- I was out from under the dome and down in Gaithersburg. That shower looks pretty decent not as it rolls through the Laurel to Odenton area. Got on and off light rain here which is just enough to thwart my gardening plans. I'll just do it tomorrow which looks cool as well. Instead I am working on a shrimp and sausage jambalaya and will get a couple beers chilling
  22. I won't get any rain but it's a nice day for being outside. Not a great week for people that went to the beaches this week! Looking like an all-day rain today and more later in the week. Hopefully they'll be luckier than that. We go next week and the long range discussion mentioned cut-off low. Don't do it!
  23. Sound about right. Oh well I could use the cloudy dry day for some needed garden maintenance.
  24. WOW and I thought my spot was bad! Some areas in western VA with only a half inch in the last 30 days while places near Richmond are 10-15 inches
  25. LOL yeah you got that right! Five months straight of 40s and rain. A few more years of this horrendous climate and I am out
