  1. No thunderstorm action here as usual but did manage 0.8 total of rain from showers which is twice what I was expecting. Good for the lawn.
  2. Welp, that's 0.11 better than I've gotten so far! I've had three cells miss to the north since yesterday, including this one a little bit ago. Sun's out now and radar looks clear.
  3. Zone forecast saying 1-2" just for tomorrow night. Haha nope that'll my July total. No complaints on temps though -- down to 73!
  4. Glad I watered my parched gardens a couple hours ago because what looked like a can't-miss solid line went poof right as it got here. Nice refreshing gust front though. Better luck tomorrow? We'll see. I'll go with an over/under of 0.3 for the Thurs-Fri event.
  5. Noooooooooooo! Just heard my first annual cicada today. I hate them things!
  6. Gotta agree with you there. Our average high through much of July is 89/90 so I don't get why they count "90-degree days" which are basically average. I'd count 95-degree days.
  7. This WTOP article about DC's heat islands says that "...on Tuesday, when temperatures were in the mid-to-upper 90s, parts of the city like Rock Creek Park were actually in the 70s." Wow, I thought woods could drop air temps by up to 9 degrees, but this much? DC Heat Islands
  8. We were talking about the exact same thing yesterday! We were on the deck and saw a Southwest Airlines plane with its distinctive colors way up there and said what ever happened to the old "hazy hot and humid?" Like you said back in the 70s and 80s the sky was milky looking and even the damn air was bright from haze. These days we have really clear air with the heat. It's nice.
  9. I read where only 44% of homes in the Seattle area have AC. Not good with forecasted high of 100 today and 108 tomorrow. Tacoma has 101/111 and Portland 112/112. My gawd. Another cloudy start today, but it's gonna be a warm one later!
  10. Whoa just looked at eastern shore radar -- was that expected?
  11. Unexpected overcast was a bonus this morning with some weeding and feeding to do in the garden. Very light sprinkle now and still just 75
  12. Just looked -- highs near 110 for Portland and Seattle! Holy moly
  13. 48 here to start! Look at the messed up reading from Clarksburg, WV -- that would be some serious freezing rain huh LOL
  14. 0.5 total from the storms yesterday. Looks like some decent stratiform rain moving in from the west so hopefully places that missed yesterday get some.
  15. So I got hit pretty good. Not a ton of rain at 0.4, but had some gusts at 50-60. I had some nice 30-inch long by 10-inch tall and wide wood planter pots on my deck bannister that I was sure were heavy enough not to worry about. Nope -- one was blown off and smashed with the plants assassinated. Going on amazon to look for brackets
  16. You'll love it. Radarscope is awesome. I've seen the rain/sleet/snow line in winter storms on that thing and it is very accurate.
  17. That line looks nice and solid now, but I have higher elevations in almost a semicircle to my W all the way around to the NE, and many times these lines break up over me then reform to the east. We'll see...
  18. Couldn't help but to notice this -- NPZ I hope you got a storm at your new place! At 417 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Stephens City, or near Millwood Pike, moving east at 45 mph.
  19. Whew hot one today -- glad we got some coolish coming this week. How 'bout this noon ob from Needles, CA: 117 / DP 19 / Relh 3%
  20. In our area there are certain trees here and there (mainly cherries) that are massively infested with the hissing sounding ones, with everywhere else quiet. There's one house 10 or so doors down from us that has a big tree that is still ear-shattering. They have a nice deck and I bet they're not using it! Meanwhile nice and quiet at our house.
  21. This weather has been awesome, and it looks like we get another shot of this later next week. Thanks Canada!
  22. That Kettering storm was unbelievable. I still remember the date -- July 10, 1978. The hail was tennis ball size and took out all the west-facing windows of people's houses. I remember my dad running from window to window helplessly as they shattered. Everyone got new roofs too. The Orlando storm caused $1,500 damage to my car and some neighborhoods had several inches of hail on the ground.
  23. Yikes -- Warning says trained weather spotters reported quarter sized hail in Baltimore City and the storm has since strengthened.
  24. Haha yup, and silence of loud deck party behind us. Man that was some rain though -- some yards downhill from us had rivers running thru that you could see with the lightning strikes. Best T-Storm for me in a couple years.
  25. Not quite severe but pretty intense -- very heavy rain with lots of lightning, a couple gusts to about 50, and a brief shot of small hail. I always get nervous with hail because it always starts small. I have bad memories of two monster hailstorms in Kettering, MD in 1978 and Orlando, FL in 1992.
