Outside in Jamaica, it’s like a baseball bat to the face. It’s actually smoky, like flying around in the air. The smell is like a campfire 10 feet away. It’s jarring to see and smell. Like, a dream or something.
-
Apparently Kilauea on the Big Island.
-
Definitely a lot worse now then even 2 hours ago. No question.
-
Can literally smell smoke inside my LIRR train right now. It’s not even subtle. Have had a light headache all morning too. This is nuts.
-
It is much breezier than what the NWS forecasted. It feels good, it’s keeping things comfortable, but we’re getting 30-35 mph gusts which I saw no indication of.
-
Alright, that’s good. The lighter stuff early and the later start on the rain should keep the grass field good for me and she’s playing on turf. Thanks!
-
Any rain should be starting later in the morning now? I’m kicking the ball around a little after 8 in Sayville and my older daughter is playing in North Babylon around 10:30. We should be good for both, no?

That August ‘19 thunderstorm took down a tree that hit my house, put a small hole in my roof and then bounced off, destroyed my porch and a branch broke the windshield on my car. I believe it registered a 92mph gust. Not a fun night.

Yup, it is 66 right now. Feels like a late April/early May morning. This is nuts!
-
Wow. Damn.

I’m guessing the arctic mass must have been entering my area when I made that post, but winds were whipping at the time (I’d say in the 45mph range) and pretty consistent. I was under the assumption the worst of the winds are for after 5pm (which they certainly may be). I’m in Queens now (and indoors) but I don’t see how this didn’t qualify as a wind advisory at the least. Or, like you said, a wind chill warning.
-
LOL at no wind advisory.
-
Think it’s more of a case that people are that desperate for any kind of a snow event or accumulation. Even this pittance.
-
Half-inch possible between 3a and 5a? You think they’ll have delayed school openings?
-
Slight snow shower in Rockville Centre right now.
-
Wind underperformed for this, no?

December 22nd - 23rd Cutter Discussion and Observations

Seems as though it’s finally backed off a bit. Getting 35-40mph gusts now instead of house rockers I was getting an hour or two ago. I know it’s gonna be annoyingly breezy until Sunday night but at least it seems the worst is over. The 40 degree range in high to low temps today are absolutely bananas. Still can’t believe the difference in temperature in the errands I ran at 2 and getting my daughter off the bus at 3:30. -

Lol, this wind is insane. I’m getting 45-50mph gusts easily right now. -

Just went out to get my youngest from the bus stop. Holy hell! It’s freezing and the wind is coming from the NNW completely now. Crazy! -

Holy crap, I’m guessing this is the back end of the front?? Just came in with a vengeance. Gusty southwest wind and a torrential burst out of, seemingly, nowhere. -

Looks like some serious rain coming off the water to hit eastern LI soon. Wind is already gusting. -
I have no way of knowing this officially but seems windier than forecasted or, even, what’s reported by NWS. Nothing crazy, but I’ve had a few strong gusts.
-
Breeze has died down, low-to-mid 50s…Red sky sunset looking west towards the Van Wyck in Jamaica. Beautiful evening.

2022 Atlantic Hurricane season
guinness77 replied to StormchaserChuck!'s topic in Tropical Headquarters
We’re getting to a point with climate change and global warming where any bad weather event or an earthquake can affect anyone anywhere. We just had a tropical system with (I believe) sub-930mb of pressure hit freakin Nova Scotia. Do we start blaming people for living near the NS coast? Do we blame people living near an Iowa cornfield when there’s a tornado or a derecho that destroys their home? Should people not live in California because of the San Andreas fault? When it comes down to it, I would guess a vast majority of the time, these are people with serious roots dug into whatever location they/their family grew up in. It’s not easy to just pick everything up and start a new life in a place you THINK is safe from Mother Nature.
