  1. Haven’t looked outside yet but the wife tells me our porch chairs are across the street (I put long bricks on the them), our garbage cans are MIA, and our basketball net is on its side. Dont worry though, Bumble is still upright. Winds had dropped a bit since those winds around 4 or 5am but I got a wicked squall coming through now and it’s very windy again.
  2. It’s funny, I looked at a bunch of wind models a little earlier and despite what we’re supposed to get, the strongest winds still appear to be off coast, and later. But, you see the ticks west, and that’s never a good sign, wind-wise.
  3. I had 7 trees when we bought our house 15 years ago. I’m down to 1. That explains why I hate wind. One of them hit my roof, put a hole in it, bounced off and destroyed my porch too. Insult to injury, one of the branches was long enough to shatter the windshield of my car.
  4. It’s kind of insane, to me at least, that that was completely missed by NWS. I honestly couldn’t believe how windy it was. Probably windiest it’s been all Fall. I’m getting a gust here and there but no howling wind through the trees and nothing rattling the house. I’m certainly not complaining, hopefully it stays that way.
  5. Probably smart to take down any breakable decorations, unplug blowups and put smaller furniture in the garage right? It’s annoying but probably the smart move.
  6. I know it’s still 5 or so days away but Sunday night/Monday early morning looks like it could get nasty, especially the further east you go.
  7. Just had a gust of wind blow over my (full) garbage cans and my stacked Adirondack chairs (which I do whenever there’s even a chance of gusty winds) off the porch. Gotta take a 45-50mph gust to do that. I understand a shift in direction with a coastal front, but to not even put it out there that these kind of winds were a possibility is big L for the NWS.
  8. I don’t know what the exact number is, but it is way windier than “30mph” gusts.
  9. Those were two I didn’t look at. GFS and all 3 NAMs don’t really have (I’m on LI) until around 3ish, if not later. I defer to the experts, I know you guys said GFS isn’t always best close to an event.
  10. NWS pretty bullish on giving us rain tomorrow through the morning until Monday although all these models im looking at don’t have rain starting until late afternoon and it looks to be pretty light. Kinda weird.
  11. Where the hell was this weather when I was off last week? Lol, absolutely sucks to be going to an office for the rest of the day.
  12. Just drove from Babylon village to West Islip…roads are flooded everywhere. Corner of Higbie and Union was halfway up on my tires. Can’t imagine if it had been like this all day here. Good luck to those who did.
  13. Lol, yeah, not gonna drive to Gowanus. It sucks, but it seems like the right thing to do with all these posts I’m seeing. Thanks for talking sense into my thick skull.
  14. All I gotta say is, despite the fact this weather is really screwing up something I’m supposed to do, is that @wdragnailed this thing like 5 or 6 days in advance and that’s incredibly impressive. Thank you. How stupid would it be to drive from West Babylon to Gowanus (and back) around 10:30/11am for something that’s not necessarily that important?
  15. I don’t know if anyone even has an answer for this but I’m planning on driving into Gowanus right around noon. I’m hoping for a quick in and out, how bad is it gonna be around that time? Any answers are appreciated.
  16. I go back to work on Monday so it’ll end Sunday night. Terrible week to be off and next week’s forecast is a slap in the face.
  17. Irene was more of a northern straight shot that came in significantly west of Gloria. Gloria came in right through the heart of LI and on more of an angle off the NC/VA coast.
  18. I grew up in North Babylon. I was 8. We went outside when the eye passed over. The most hellacious part of the storm was when it restarted. Lightning hit the tree in front of my house. We had 2 trees end up in our (new at the time) pool. Didn’t go to school/no power for a week. It was the first thing in my life that piqued my interest in weather. Just amazed me what weather could do.
  19. Literally couldn’t have picked a worse week to be off. This weather is frustrating.
