  1. At this time of the year it doesn't matter-- we're well into fall and nothing is growing here right now. Also the reservoirs are fine, so any rainfall deficit doesn't really matter. Not every year has to be way above normal, we've had plenty (too many!) years with too much rain, it's time for things to balance out now. Also, if you want to water something, you can do so. Lawns are a waste of space and a waste of resources, so I was done with those years ago.
  2. Yes at 80. It had a slight burning smell at the beginning and I saw a some wispy smoke, but that was likely just the dust from over the summer being burned off
  3. If it was winter, it still wouldn't be snowing here.
  4. Dude my legs were freezing, I didn't just turn the heat on, it's up at 80! Perfect!
  5. Not including Central NJ where it's already over half a foot just south of Toms River; that area may end up with double digit totals (of rainfall of course lol).
  6. You're not wrong. Getting something like 1" of rain every other week during the summer is fine, this cold clammy windy crap is awful and it just reminds me I need to insulate my drafty windows.
  7. Honestly though a lot of people I know were getting sick and tired of all the wet summers. The beautiful dry sunny weather was a nice change and reminded me of how summers used to be around here. I don't have any grass in my Lond Island house, I got rid of that a few years ago and replaced it with a rock garden. I did get various kinds of plants to plant around the yard; I used my waterhose to water them, no biggie.
  8. 2002 had a truly classic summer. Really hot and very dry. I have some pictures from that year that show lawns that looked like straw. 90 + heat from that first historic heatwave in April onwards right through September. Good times! And of course what made it even more classic was the winter that followed.
  9. I'd much rather have my warm Octobers. Cold weather right now does nada except add to heating bills without the visual benefit of snow.
  10. Yeah I remember when the reservoirs were down to around 40% back in the 80s-90s era so it's amusing that having them around 75% or so in the middle of the summer was considered extreme.
  11. It's raining very hard here, we already have over 2" in this event. This whole week is a huge downer lol. I think people forget that for most of NYC's climate record, the average annual rainfall was around 40". Going by the full climate history, this isn't much of a drought.
  12. I wouldn't say the rain is desperately needed though....this isn't California.
  13. Also goes to show how hot the back to back years of 2010-2011 really were. I hope we get back to that (and more like the era of the 1990s when we had the most high 90 degree days)....having drier summers would be a nice first step.
  14. The weather we had before was great. Meaning temps in the 70s, sunny and low humidity.
  15. He must have a heater on to stay warm.
  16. In the winter though this would seem like the first storm in February 2010.....
  17. This storm in January would probably be better for most of the area than getting this in December.
  18. For whatever reason these kinds of storms seem to happen the most in October and March. There was that December 1992 historic storm too.
  19. I remember 1995 quite clearly, that one was awful and led to the wildfires. No measurable precip in August until a weird southward moving front reached us the night before September started! Where does the couplet of June-July 1999 rank, having two months in a row of around half an inch of rain is historic. What about the entire met summer of JJA 1999? I remember we didn't bust the drought until Floyd hit here (right around my birthday on the 15th!)
  20. I don't get this desire for flooding rains, it's already rained plenty the last couple of days. And it's not completely dry right now, the roads are wet down here and it's too cold for early October. Floods don't bust droughts, they just create run off, which is useless and destructive. It takes several months for droughts to end (not that this one is such a bad drought anyway.)
  21.  My memory of that period is pristine as usual and you need to go back to whatever hole you crawled out of.  Perhaps back to your blog, which has some of the most mediocre writing I've ever seen.

  22. lmao as usual haha (also wrong there)-- you don't seem like the kind of person who would do well on standardized tests, you seem to have issues with context.  It's delightful that you actually think that was a blanket statement that applies to the entire planet, but no, we're talking about the  NYC region since that's the subforum we're in.

I was talking about our local area.  I also posted a number of metrics that showed that Summer 1999 was indeed a hotter summer as measured by concentration of hot 90 degree days and by hottest month of the year (and indeed the hottest month in the NYC record-- July 1999)  And the dryness of back to back near 0.5 inch months is nearly unmatched.  My memory of that period is pristine as usual and you need to go back to whatever hole you crawled out of.  Perhaps back to your blog, which has some of the most mediocre writing I've ever seen.

  23. You said nowhere east of NJ recorded 100. You were wrong, as usual.

  24. It would be better if they went out to sea lol, it's been raining for 2 days already.
  25. It's way too early for this ****. I hate having to turn my heat on so early.
