  1. It's getting close to 70 here too and full sunshine the SE Ridge is going to hold back clouds until after peak heating so we should all hit 70 today
  2. it really was a once in a lifetime event (until Jan 2016 lol)-- none of these other events in between those two or before or after measured up to me (except maybe February 1983). The unchallenged greatest snowstorms (only 20"+ snowstorms here) in chronological order are: February 1983 January 1996 PD 2 2003 January 2016
  3. better radiational cooling-- I've seen this before low humidity and clear skies, our temps drop This isn't the case at Islip though? Maybe they are more urbanized
  4. JFK not on this list Don? I think we'll get this record too Record high is in the mid 70s though? I hope it stays sunny through at least early to mid afternoon maybe we could see 70
  5. The main sensible differences between this year and 89-90 are-- it was colder that season (even when it was warm it was still colder than it is now, and of course December was a lot colder and we had these near snowstorm busts too) and we had a Thanksgiving snowstorm.
  6. this winter is out of the 89-90 playbook I feel like I've been reliving it ever since late December, I was using that analog going all the way back to Christmas
  7. that late march fluke storm is what screwed it out of the lowest snowfall record, otherwise we would be competing with it instead Did you look at how crazy snowfall amounts were in the 90s-- 3 out of 4 years with less than 10 inches of snow sandwiched by two historic years with over 50 inches each lol
  8. It's pretty apparent that a good Pacific is way more important than NAO blocking, I've seen enough bad NAO blocks to know that they carry false advertizing. Give me a great Pacific over NAO blocking any day, week or year. I've seen plenty of nao blocks that didn't work out.
  9. It's awesome huh.....we have had like 3 events total one with zero accumulation, one with a light coating on some elevated surfaces and one with a solid coating but also only on elevated surfaces....none of these stayed on the ground more than an hour or two lol We also set the record for warmest January in recorded history and only three days with a low below freezing.
  10. 0.2 at JFK so close to perfect futility and it feels like spring now and planting has begun
